The Province of Ulster region
Buncrana is the perfect location to enjoy a relaxing holiday in Donegal. It is the gateway to the North West of Ireland. Centrally located in an area in Donegal allowing easy access to Inishowen, Letterkenny and Northern Ireland.
Derry-Londonderry (City Of Culture 2013) is a 20 min drive, Letterkenny is a 35 min drive and Belfast approx. 1.5hrs.
Malin Head, Irelands most northernly point is approx. 30 mins away.
Buncrana Town and nearby surrounding areas have so much to offer for travellers.
The local scenic beauty is most definitely a huge attraction. Sandy beaches, numerous viewpoints from rolling hills, cliffs and mountains.
An ideal way to enjoy the scenic beauty of this area is by taking the "Inishowen 100" route plan by the local tourist industry which shows off Inishowens best features throughout a 100km journey.
The nature of the local people is welcoming and warming. People here have a genuine and caring interest in other people and this is a most unique and pleasant experience for travellers from largely populated areas to sample.
A relaxing holiday in the countryside is what you will get yet there are cities with large populations as nearby as 20 minutes drive.
Buncrana town itself offers numerous attractions for a visitor:-
Sandy beaches; Local fishing and angling centre; Fahan Marina; Kayaking; Walks and hiking route; Orienteering in Swan Park; Equestrian Centre; Historic monuments - O' Dohertys Keep, The Castle, Dunree Fort and An Grianan Aileach to name but a few; Summer Ferry crossing service between Buncrana Pier and Rathmullan Pier; Public Leisure Centre; Childrens Play Park on the shore green; Public Tennis Courts; 2 No Golf Courses - Buncrana Municipal (9 Hole) and North West Golf Course (18 Hole); 3 Hotels (one with Spa and Private Leisure Centre); Local Kids Indoor Play Centre (Wains World); One of Irelands oldest town cinemas...a true gem in our little town that us locals are very proud of; 4 Large Supermarkets - Aldi, Lidl, Supervalu and Eurospar; Many fantastic restaurants to suit various budgets; 15 bars (many with live music); 1 popular nightclub and 1 live band venue.
Buncrana hosts an annual music festival (normally in July) and the nearby town of Clonmany plays host to a hugely popular country music festival every year which brings with it people from all corners of the world! The nearby village of Ballyliffin also plays host to the world renowed Ballyliffin Golf Course. Derry and Letterkenny both have multiplex cinemas and bowling alleys; Halfway Go Karting Centre, Burnfoot is close by for visitors with a need for speed ;)
Buncrana is a superb location for people of all ages. It has something to offer for everyone and really is worth a visit...come and see for yourself ;)

"A comfortable and well-equipped family house"
House positioned in a quiet area with easy access to the town of Buncrana, the beaches at Lisfannon and the Inishowen Peninsula. The house is comfortable and well-equipped and Anita looked after us well. The welcome pack of food essentials was particularly well received. Many thanks.
Your lovely comments are very much appreciated. We do agree that the property has a fantastic location to explore Buncrana's Town and beaches. Delighted that you all had a pleasant stay :)

"Nice place, but watch out for hidden extras"
This is a nice little cottage, and Anita was a great host and quickly dealt with any issues we had. Firstly, Anita let us arrive at the cottage very early, about 8:30am when others may not have, so that was great. We initially had a few issues with the wifi, but Anita fixed that and it was no big deal. The only issue we had was with the Electricity and heating. For the electricity it is a payment card that guests are expected to go to the garage and top up, as a prepayment for use, the minimum being €10, which we wouldn't have fully used in the 3 days we were there. And for the heating there was a coin machine that you have to put €1 in for the heating to come on for 45 minutes. After raising some issues with Anita, she topped up the electricity for us and left us some € coins for the heating, but we still used another €10 ish more ourselves, due to the time of year we were there. I think we wouldn't have had a problem with the additional charges if they'd been on the advert and we weren't surprised with it, managing expectations and all that, although I think those additional charges should be factored into the rental price and the top up meters removed. Also, if they are there I think clear instructions on how to use the top meters should be stuck to the wall next to them, as we lost a couple of € putting them into the meter while it was switched off and the credit not being counted. These issues aside its a great little cottage and Anita is a very welcoming and helpful hostess. I would recommend the cottage, but wouldn't recommend staying in the winter and early spring months as it gets very cold and can cost a lot to heat.
Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We take all our feedback very seriously. I am really disappointed that you felt mislead by having to pay for electricity and heating as it is clearly stated on the tariffs section of my advert that meters are installed aswell as on the booking form you would have received from me. It is fairly standard that these measures are accounted for on top of the rental price as its only fair to each individual customer. As with car hire the petrol is extra on top of the rental price. We feel that its better to charge as you go rather than factor it in to a set price as each individual is different. The €1 for 45 mins of oil just is set at todays current oil rates and is not a money making scheme at all. I will arrange an instruction manual within the property to describe coin meter usage better if it helps others in the future. Thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again. Anita :)
