The Powys/Brecon Beacons region

The area is known for it's natural beauty with plenty of acitivites such as walking, cycling, horse riding and more. Or if you simply want to relax and chill out a break in Mid Wales will definately tick the box. The market town of Builth Wells lies on the banks of the River Wye and is central for getting around the surrounding stunning countryside.

Areas of natural beauty are abundant, the Brecon Beacons National Park is a half hour drive away and can be combined with a visit to the market town of Brecon with shops for browsing and also canal boat trips and other attractions.

The Elan Valley Resevoir is also on your doorstep (roughly a 20 minute scenic drive). The beauty of the dams can be seen on foot (there are many walking trails), or by bike on the numberous cylce trails (there is a hire shop in the local town of Rhayader), or there is a stunning short drive around the dams that is a must!! There is a visitor center that provides a cafe with good food/drinks together with information on the area and a childrens playpark.

The Victorian town of Llandrindod Wells (7 miles away) is also of interest with it's many Victorian buildings, a big ornamental lake for nice gentle walks in beautiful surroundings. A popluar Victorian festival is held in the town during the last week of August each year, providing visitors with street entertainment, acitivies and the opportunity to dress up and get a feel for the Victoiran era..all of this culminates with a spectacular torch parade through the town with a impressive firework display around the ornamental lake.

No visit can be complete without a visit to Hay on Wye, this charming little town straddles the border between Wales and England and is reknown for it's book shops and also for the Hay Book Festival which attracts worldwide stars and visitors at the end of May and start of June each year. Hay has a great variety of lovely small shops, cafes and bars and again is just a half hour drive away from Evergreen Lodge.

The nearest beaches are to be found in Aberystwyth or Borth and are both about an hour and a quarter away (scenic mountain road route from Builth Wells is an option to the main road). Aberystwyth is a Univiersity town, which combines traditional seaside activies, a pier, shopping and lovely coastal views. Borth has a long sandy beach with sand dunes.

Builth Wells

Builth Wells is a small market town situated in the heart of Mid Wales. The river Wye flows through the town and there are many lovely walks along it's banks such as the three bridges walk.

The town has a number of interesting shops that are well worth a browse. There is also a good choice of places to eat and drink, including cafes, restaurants, bars and takeaways. There is a theatre and cinema in the centre of town with a good mix of live theatre, films and music.

The town offers a beautiful 18 hole golf course situated on the outskirts of town. Other activities available are swimming in the local indoor pool and tennis both located on the Groe Park. There are numerous footpaths and cycle routes in the local area as well as horse riding.

There is a good sized childrens play area located on the Groe Park and an indoor play barn for kids of all ages located approximately 3 miles from the town.

The famous Royal Welsh Show is held at the showground on the outskirts of town each July this is a 4 day event showcasing agriculture and so much more with stalls, produce and entertainment.

There are countless other events of interest held at the showground throughout the year, such as dog show, horse events, antique fairs and so on, the full list of events can be found on the Royal Welsh Show website.
