Villa | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Casa Rosa is a lovely two-bedroomed detached villa nestled in the village of Bugnara, Sulmona, Abruzzo. It has been renovated to a high standard with full mains gas central heating and a fireplace. There is a large open-plan fully fitted kitchen/dining room/lounge, complete with Italian TV, DVD player and Ipod docking system. On the 1st floor there is a shower room, two separate bedrooms (each with a balcony) and access to a large fantastic 'sun trap' roof terrace where you can relax with a glass (or two) of wine and admire the views of the surrounding village, woodland and mountains.
Casa Rosa is close to the centre of the village which is in the Club of 'The most beautiful villages of Italy' (see the link in the yellow contacts box at the bottom right hand side of the page for a link to my website). In the village you will find a Pizzeria, three bars, a hotel with restaurant, a Take Away Pizza shop, two grocery shops, Post Office, chemist, hairdressers, a fishing pool along with four churches.
Just a five minute drive to the small historic city of Sulmona, Casa Rosa is very well placed for visiting three National Parks - the Majella National Park, the Abruzzo National Park and the Sirente Velino Park. It is the perfect location for walking and trekking holidays (there are numerous walks from the village), cycling, horse riding, sightseeing or just for a relaxing break away. The wonderful beaches of the Adriatic are only 40 minutes drive away, the cool lakes of Scanno only 20 minutes away and skiing 25 minutes drive. There is even a Water Park at Corfinio which is only 10 minutes down the road and Sulmona has indoor and outdoor swimming pools with loungers for sunbathing. And of course Rome is only 90 minutes drive away. For winter breaks there are numerous ski resorts, the largest being only just 25 minutes drive away at Roccaraso.
With one double and one twin bedroom, the villa is ideal for families, friends or couples, with more than enough in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.
There is a fantastic large 'sun trap' roof terrace from where you can relax with a glass (or two) of wine and admire the views of the surrounding village, woodland and mountains.
Being totally detached, Casa Rosa has its own private garden. There is a secluded shady courtyard complete with table and chairs directly off the kitchen, from here 4 steps take you to the cottage garden, which is south facing and one part is gravelled with Maiella stone, complete with a table, four chairs, two benches and umbrella, and the other part is up four more steps and has 2 comfy chairs which are surrounded by fig trees and newly planted nut and olive trees and has a fantastic view down the valley to the Gran Sasso in the distance, so you have a choice of sun or shade. You can of course relax on the front terrace of Casa Rosa with your coffee - with so much outside space you will be spoilt for choice!.
Casa Rosa is like a second home - by that we mean that it is not just a holiday let. We love it and we hope that you will love it too. We have furnished Casa Rosa with care and it is very well equipped. We hope that we have thought of everything that you could want on a self catering holiday.

The Abruzzo region
There is something for everyone in Abruzzo. Nature and history, art and scenery, traditional culture and avant-garde festivals all jostle for attention. Abruzzo rivals Umbria and Tuscany for spectacular mountain scenery and features in George Clooney's latest film, 'The American'. The landscape ranges from the high snow-covered peaks of the Gran Sasso to the sandy beaches of the Adriatic
There are excellent transport links throughout the region and you can easily find yourself on one of the many long sandy beaches at the coast or wandering through a choice of no less than three National parks within the space of an hour.
There is an abundance of wildlife in the National Parks, home to the Marsican bear and Apennine wolves (two species that have been saved from extinction) and the scenery varies from dense woodland to wide open plains and picture perfect lakes. In winter many of the snow covered mountain ranges become home for skiers of all abilities. The ski resorts of Pratello, Campo di Giove and Rocaraso are less than 30 minutes away.
Festivals play a large part in the life of Italians, every city, town and village has its own special festival, including Bugnara and you will always be invited to join in by the friendly locals.
Abruzzo is gastronomical delight with restaurants serving locally produced fresh food. Try the wonderful range of Peccorino cheeses and fine local wines, such as the white Trebbiano and red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
From stunning medieval villages to amazing hilltop castles, breathtaking scenery to long sandy beaches, there really is something for everyone in Abruzzo.
Bugnara is a medieval village with all the amenities. It has a Pizzeria, three bars, a hotel with restaurant, a Take Away Pizza shop, two grocery shops, Post Office, chemist, hairdressers, childrens playpark along with four churches. It also has its own fishing pool.
There is a regular bus service to the surrounding area, including Scanno and Sulmona. There are many walks from Bugnara through the forest on 'Colle Rotondo'. Just outside the village is a donkey sanctuary, where you can visit the donkeys and walk with them in the nearby forest, it even has a restaurant that is open during the summer months and has live music on a Thursdays.
The village is very well situated, being only a few minutes drive from the motorway. Casa Rosa is a five minute drive away from Sulmona, which is an ancient city full of history. There you will find facilities such as supermarkets, shopping centres, bars, restaurants, museums, a theatre, cinema, sports complexes and railway station, in addition to many fine buildings, churches and parks. From Sulmona regular buses and trains will take you straight into Rome, Pescara and other cities. The beach at Pescara is only a short walk from the train station.
Sulmona has a huge lively market every Wednesday and Saturday where you can buy fresh local produce, clothing, toys etc and nearby Raiano has a large and vibrant market held every Sunday morning.
Sulmona and the surrounding villages have a large calendar of events which include many festivals. Sulmona's Easter celebrations and the annual International Jousting competitions in July and August are of particular note with medieval pagentry parades.
SKIING: Casa Rosa, Bugnara is close to the ski resorts in Abruzzo of Pratello, Campo di Giove and Rocaraso and are less than 30 minutes away.

Casa Rosa has been our perfect “home away from home”. Even the drive to Sulmona is full of picturesque beauty, and so we've enjoyed our frequent visits to this beautiful city with so much to see and enjoy there.
Bugnara has been a delight as well. We think that the interior of the cathedral in Bugnara is magnificent, the sacred art in there is gorgeous.
