The West Country region
North Cornwall has something for everyone; walking, surfing, golf, horse-riding, cycling, wind-surfing, fishing, kayaking, rock-climbing and tennis. Long sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, moors, valleys and breathtaking scenery at every turn.
Many attractions await you, The Eden project, Lost gardens of Helegan, Tintagel, the Otter sanctuary, to name but a few.
Boscastle and Padstow offer fishing and sightseeing trips which show the spectacular coastline from a different angle, St Ives boasts the New Tate and Port Isaac Doc Martin's House, you can also enjoy a free live performance of the now world famous group Fishermans Friend in the open air on the Platt at Port Isaac on selected Friday evenings (a must with fish & chips and a pint of local cider)
Truro, Exeter and Plymouth are all about an hours drive away.
Widemouth Bay a long, wide sandy beach renowned for surfing has two sections, North beach, where The Beach House is situated, and Black Rock, it is home to 2 great pub/restaurants a shop, who also do fish & chips in the summer, a couple of cafes and surf hire. Surf lessons can be arranged as several surf schools operate here as do Outdoor Adventure who offer a huge range of activities for all ages.
Bude, a delightful seaside town, is about 3 miles north, a great walk along the south west coast path or 5 mins in the car; it has a selection of shops and restaurants, 2 fantastic beaches, Summerleaze and Crooklets a fresh seawater pool, canal breakwater and harbour. It hosts a local farmers market on a Friday on the wharf, carnival and Jazz festival in late summer. You can hire a boat and explore the canal and where it meets the sea have a look at the only sea water lock in the country, a local event when once a fortnight when it is manually opened by local muscle (and visitors of course)and a stroll along side the canal takes you through a wildlife sanctuary, a bird watchers delight. Bude also offers several banks, 3 supermarkets, an indoor pool with flume & fitness centre, bowling alley, golf course and very friendly locals.
Finally the best homemade Cream Tea in the world (in our opinion) is served by a delightful lady from a caravan at Northcott Mouth about a mile north of Bude, walk along the coast path across the downs or by car through Poughill (pronounced Pofill)
