Our 300 year old cob cottage has 3 bedrooms, sleeps 7, and is situated in a quiet village just 15 minutes from the north coast sandy beaches. The cottage is located in the quiet and peaceful village of North Petherwin. The cottage is ideal both for families - with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay, beaches, surfing, pub meals; and for couples, who are looking for a romantic break from the hustle and bustle, having quiet coastal walks or a glass of wine in the cottage garden or in front of the wood burner. The Master Bedroom has an new luxury ensuite bathroom. The detached cottage was the village Post Office many years ago, and boasts beamed ceilings and an inglenook fireplace with a wood burner and bread oven.

There is a king size sleigh bed in the master bedroom, an iron framed double bed, and bunkbed and single bed in the remaining two double bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped and the lounge has a 2-piece suite, comprising of a new large leather settee and large new leather arm chair, and a rocking chair!

There is a family bathroom and a separate shower room, which has recently been converted into a wet room. The cottage is fully equipped with Freeview Television, DVD player and video recorder.

There is large under cover seated area outside ensuring a glass of wine, beer and a barbeque can be enjoyed outside - whatever the weather!!

There is a double bedroom downstairs, providing easier access to the wet/ shower room and family bathroom for less mobile visitors.

If you are a keen golfer you will be pleased to know that there are 2 golf courses within a 5 mile radius from your doorstep; Launceston Golf Course and Trethorn Golf Club.

The nearest public house is the Countryman, 1 1/2 miles away (30 minute walk if you like a beer or two) which has a thatched roof and serves excellent food. I also recommend the White Horse in the market town of Launceston, which is 4 miles away. The Otter Park is a 5 minute walk down the road.

The nearest beach is 15 minutes away; you have a choice of Crackington Haven, Bude and Widemouth Beach. Polzeath is only 30 minutes away!

A little further afield you will find Newquay (40 minutes, Padstow (40 minutes), Plymouth (40 minutes) Exeter (40 minutes) and The Eden Project (45 minutes).

Launceston town area

•Boscastle and Tintagel – explore the picturesque village of Boscastle with cottages dating back to the 15th Century and stroll along its timeless harbour. A few miles down the coast lies Tintagel, said to be the birthplace of King Arthur, which boasts superb walks with numerous pubs along the way.

•Tintagel Castle – a land full of mystic and legend, discover for yourself the rocky headland of Tintagel with King Arthur’s castle.

•Crackington Haven – its dramatic cliffs draw many tourists to this lovely spot, close to ‘High Cliff,’ Cornwall’s highest point. While you are there visit nearby hamlet St Gennys and the tiny historic church which has amazing views to Lundy Island.

•Bodmin Moor-Explore the crags and combes of Bodmin Moor. Scale the heights of the rugged but beautiful peaks of Roughtor or Brown Willy for a kestrel’s eye view of the moor. Look out for rare plants such as bog orchids and coral necklace and marvel at her mysterious 4000 year old Stannon or Trippet stone circles.

Trethorne Leisure – great entertainment for children and adults alike, Trethorne Leisure offers something for the whole family.

•Tamar Otter Park – the Otter Park and Wildlife Centre allows visitors to not just otters (made famous by the legendary Tarka), but also deer, wallabies and many species of birds while walking through the woodlands.

•Launceston Steam Railway – step back in time and visit this historic railway, museum and gift shop. Buy a ‘Day Rover’ ticket that will allow you to travel in open or closed carriages around the Kensey Valley and with a train every 50 minutes, there is plenty of time for a picnic stop on route!

Within 20 miles

•Port Isaac – another beautiful and historic coastal village that offers fantastic walks along the coast or allong the steep and narrow streets.

•Bude – Sandy beaches, stone breakwaters and the canalside walks make this an all weather destination with evening concerts and mouth-watering restaurants.

•Golitha Falls – a famous beauty spot on the edge of Bodmin Moor, best seen between April and July.

•Pencarrow – this magnificent house boasts 50 acres of stunning gardens designed by Sir William Molesworth between 1831 and 1855.

•Lanhydrock – this stunning Victorian country house is National Trust owned and provides a great day out for visitors of all ages.

"Dissapointed"

I booked the cottage as my Dad has Parkinson's disease and it stated that it was suitable for disabled. Firstly the gate to the property had I not been with my parents would not of been easy for a diabled person to open. Then when getting into the drive way there was a very steep step to get down to the door to enter the property. There was then another step to get down when finally in the property to get into the dining area. The wet room was off the dining room with another step to get into it, also the bedroom down stairs was off the dining room again with a step all beit a small one but disguised by the carpet my Dad's first entrance into the bedroom found himself landed between the floor and the bed. Also the privacy of coming out of the wet room to get back to the bedroom to get dressed was very open as people from the back door would be able to see nude bodies making their way back to the bedroom to get dressed. The overall cleanliness of the cottage was not good at all, in fact all cooker baking trays needed to be washed before I could use them to cook with, where the kitchen bin was there was splashes of food and liquid up the white painted brick wall that could of just been wiped off. I also feel that basic tea bags along with the complimentary milk could of been left as until you initially find your bearings it's not a quick drive to a local shop. The wood for the log burner was an issue as the guide in the property had said that there was a key to a shed where they provided logs (which during the whole of the week my mum tried to get the lock open and we just assumed it was ceased up with rust), this however was not the case and the owner had said that the details needed up dating and that there used to be amounts of logs provided however in the past some people had took liberty of this and that they now just supplied the couple of logs that were by the log burner and that you then had to provide your own. The garden outside is not suitable for an abled bodied person so I definately would not of let my Dad out there, it was very overgrown and steps everywhere that were damp and covered in green slime that caused my mum to slip on more than one occassion whilst pegging washing out. I felt I didn't relax on the holiday at all as I was constantly worried about my parets (my mum who is a fit 65 year old). The time of year we stayed cost us £400 for the week which for the state of the cottage I found expensive but people who would stay in peak time could pay nearly £1000 that I would find extortionate. I feel that the cottage could be made really nice but definately needs a good clean and the garden sorting out, I also feel to advertise as suitable for disabled people is wrong. Just on a final note the key location was not easy either as I couldn't find it, after spending 4 hours in the car arriving there and not being able to locate the key I rang the owner on land line and mobile neither of which answered straight away, it took a good 15 minutes to get a call back and locate the key which was where it had stated but pushed really far under and with a brick wall in the way was difficult to position your head to see it, this when I spoke to the owner on the phone he had said i wasn't the first person to struggle to find it!

We take customers comments very seriously, trying to improve the Cottage to meet everyone's expectations where possible, in December we added an en-suite to the Master Bedroom and a installed a new dish washer in the kitchen!
We hate to disappoint customers, when they have been so looking forward to their holiday, however......
In this case we feel our Cottage has been unfairly judged. Our 300 year old cottage will never comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, the details describe it as 'There is a double bedroom downstairs, providing easier access to the wet/ shower room and family bathroom for less mobile visitors'. The Cottage does not have ramps etc but a bathroom, double bedroom, toilet and wet room on the ground floor! Country Cottage gardens tend to have lots of steps. Admittedly the garden at this time of year, is not at its best, the winter weather has seen to this!
The cottage was not suitable for this particular customer, and from then on it was downhill.......
We have always been commented on the nice touches, vase of fresh flowers, and fresh milk for a cup of tea. We make the fire, leave enough kindling and logs for a couple of fires during the winter months, logs can be acquired 100 yrds down the road.
We are always on the end of the phone, it's a shame the customer could not call us to resolve these issues, logs.
The key is hidden away, but comprehensive instructions are given as to where the key can be found. Customers in the past occasionally have called to confirm where it is, normally because they have not brought the key instructions with them!
Old cottages, with character are not suitable for everyone. The Cottage has been booked for 30+ weeks per year for the past six years. The feedback is mostly positive and customers book year after year!

"Wonderful and welcoming cosy cottage"

I stayed at this cottage with my children and grandchildren, from the minute we arrived we were not dissapointed particuarly with the under cover area by the side of the cottage so even if it rained we could still have a barbecue and sit outside. I love the west country where I originally come from and have stayed in various accomodation over the years this cottage has by far been the best.
It's not too fancy or frilly but it has every thing you need for a large family and pets it's a cosy cottagewith plenty of space in a good location I would recommend this cottage to any one. I cannot wait to return.

It is so nice to receive these comments. We try and cater for all holiday makers....... This customer booked again in Oct 2012, and has already booked again for Feb 2013!

"Pretty high standard but..."

A good sized cottage and suited us with children, grandparents and dog well.
Biggest gripe - had to chase return of security deposit afterwards...
Advertised dishwasher seemed to be cold only & didn't clean anything. Haven't washed up manually so much for years! Could do with a means of communicating minor things - we ended up swapping light bulbs around so that the kids had a working lamp to read by. And all the TV/video/DVD remote controls seemed to have batteries well exhausted.

Very busy season - i.e. fully booked from 2nd June 2012...
Admittedly customer on this occasion reminded me of the - payment, once payment details had been received - payment was made within 24hrs. Dishwasher has been temperamental of late - new one measured up, acquired and to be installed in winter close down - 1st two weeks in Dec 2012 - when incidentally a new en-suite is to be added to the master bedroom.
On occasion customers as well as leaving comments in the comment book, tend to leave us a note ref. batteries and light bulb etc. These comments are always welcome - helping us to maintain our standards for new and returning customers.

"A high standard of dog-friendly accommodation in a peaceful location."

A lovely cottage with lots of character sitauted in a peaceful location. Wood burner was a bonus and fitted in well with the rest of the cottage's furnishings. It was great that we could bring our dog with us and still enjoy a high standard of accommodation. We came with friends so the ample parking space was welcome. Lovely garden to sit in although close supervision of pets and children needed as the garden is not totally secured. The cottage is located centrally for exploration of central Cornwall. Good amenities in nearby towns. Owners were quick to respond to our needs, e.g. extra bedding. All in all a very relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings.

We have recently replaced/ renewed the linen.

The garden has been made secure at the beginning of this season.
