The Old Shippon at Dunsdon Farm, an historic 54 acre farm, situated in picturesque North Devon countryside adjoining the Dunsdon National Nature Reserve, with its rare culm grasslands, yet only seven miles from the North Cornwall coastline.
The Old Shippon is a beautifully restored stone barn, set within a historic farm courtyard setting, (with its own private entrance and garden). Restored in 2011 to a very high standard, the cottage features solid oak staircase, doors and skirting and has been decorated with a contemporary feel, yet still retaining the charm of its historic agricultural past.
The Old Shippon boasts three good-sized bedrooms, sleeping six people, and a reverse layout with bright open-plan living space, all under-floor heated.
Your comfort is our main aim, so we have filled one of the finest holiday cottages in North Devon with books and games that can be enjoyed in front of the wood burner in winter, or on one of the two patios in the summer. Also featuring Wifi, a BluRay/DVD player and an iPod docking station so that you can enjoy your films and music.
As dog lovers (and owners) ourselves, we are pleased to be able to offer The Old Shippon as one of the finest luxury dog friendly cottages in Devon. For dog owners we provide a “Dog Pack” with essentials to make your stay in Devon so much easier. With plenty of great local walks and 23 acres of our own private woodland , your dog can enjoy the five star luxury, as much as you!
The farm is managed primarily for conservation, we have our own fold of Highland cows, along with donkeys and horses, for children and interested adults, we organise farm walks where they can get closer and meet the animals.
For wildlife lovers, the farm is managed under Higher Level Stewardship, with a unique culm grassland re-creation project on part of the land, jointly managed with Devon Wildlife Trust. We also have resident roosting and nesting barn owls on the farm, (you might be lucky enough to view them on our “Owl Cam”).

"The Old Shippon is truly excellent for a holiday or a family celebration."
We visited out of season in March to celebrate a 60th birthday. Our party of seven was two young couples, an enthusiastic German Shepherd and of course a rather older couple. We all loved it. The Old Shippon is beautiful and superbly equipped. It was perfect for a family celebration whilst located within easy striking distance of many things to see and do. Five star accommodation and a five star welcome. A special mention must be made of the owl cam which is a hoot! The best accommodation we have ever had for Diesel the dog who barked seven times when asked for his rating

"Idyllic, Relaxing and Beautiful."
Old Shippon is quite simply the best place we've holidayed in the UK by a long way. It is a truly wonderful holiday home in a stunning setting. We loved it and we'll certainly be back. In our experience many dog friendly holiday homes can fall short of expectations, but not so Old Shippon. It is beautifully furnished, comfortable, spotlessly clean and has a properly secure garden and a private 23 acre woodland (!) in which your four legged friends can play to their hearts' content. The surrounding countryside just begs to be explored. You'll struggle to find better! Highly recommended.

"A warm comfortable home from home"
There is so much to do around this property - walking, cycling or driving. The grasslands are a calm oasis, with the added bonus of pond dipping! All equipment is provided for you as well as access to a huge storage shed for bikes/ beach gear. The property is spacious and has everything for your stay...and more. It has 'an away from it all' feel, with a chance of catching up with nature and you get to learn about Highland cattle, donkeys and Owls if you wish! We all had such a great time (humans aged 10 to 75 and dog aged 15).

"Luxury Accommodation with Breathtaking Views"
No photograph can do justice to this lovely accommodation. It is perfection. From the fresh flowers to the weather forecast for the days of occupation, from the tide table for fishermen to the history of the conversion of the shippon, no detail is spared. You can even view the owl-box on the web-cam. It really is a hidden treasure.

"Superb quality barn conversion"
Owners Paul and Kirstie have done a fantastic job of converting this building to really first class accommodation. The Old Shippon is very spacious and beautifully furnished. We very much enjoyed the tranquil setting and had fun watching the animals ~ especially the donkeys and the owl, who had her own special (closed-circuit) TV channel! Lovely walks within a short drive - Morwenstow south to Duck Pool and inland, finishing at The Bush pub, or the coastal path from Crookletts Beach to Northcott Mouth Beach. Paul and Kirstie were very welcoming hosts who had thought of everything; we hope to return before too long.

"Not usually accustomed to revisiting holiday homes as like to try others, but this one we would! X"
We had an amazing two weeks staying here at The Old Shippon. Beautiful barn conversion & the decoration is excellent. So well equipped with lovely quality items. We were blessed with a week of pure sunshine, black rock, lovely dog friendly (dogs off the lead) beach, also enjoyed Summerleaze in Bude. Loved the welcoming touches, scrabble board, scones and clotted cream, even thought of the dogs with a bowl of bones, thank you! Will highly recommend this beautiful house, thank you. We still talk about this beautiful house and our fab holiday staying here and will definitely return again. great owners very welcoming and helpful. 5 star x Caroline, Michael, Grace, Morgan Finn (and Grandma) and Tilly & Paddy (the dogs)

"Thoroughly enjoyable week, loved it!"
This cottage is amazing. It has been decorated beautifully and has a feeling of space about it. The owners were so lovely showing our children around the farm and our dog was made to feel most welcome. The highlight for our children was the owl cam, the ability to watch these birds during the day was so memorable. We loved our week here.

"The kids would happily move here!"
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Devon and Cornwall, made all the more enjoyable by our stay at the beautiful Old Shippon. Paul and Kirstie have done an amazing job with the conversion- the kids would happily move here, in no small part because of the fantastic Owl cam! The fresh flowers and the cream tea on arrival were very much appreciated and the scrabble message made us feel very welcome. Everything about the quality of the Old Shippon was excellent and we hope we'll be able to pay a return visit very soon.

"A beautifully converted barn in an idyllic countryside setting"
We had a great week staying at the Old Shippon and are planning to go again. The Old Shippon has a great layout and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay regardless of what the weather may do. The interior decoration, fittings and equipment are all of excellent quaility and very tastefully done. The farm is in a lovely remote and relaxing setting, whilst still within easy reach of the many attractions of Devon and Cornwall. The information pack at the property is full of info and ideas to help you plan your days. The welcome is very warm and great effort has been put towards those small details that make all the difference. We really enjoyed watching the owls and walking the dog in the nature reserve that forms part of the farm. The dog really enjoyed her stay and the private garden was a great place for her to relax. We can't think of anything that we didn't like or which we felt could have been done better. This is quality accomodation in a beautiful and quiet setting, but still with plenty to do and see.
