About the home
Tanglin is a light and airy detached non-estate bungalow, perfect for relaxed holidays or as a base for more strenuous activities such as surfing , walking or cycling. It offers the convenience of nearby beach and facilities whilst giving the chance of peaceful evenings.
It has a conventional layout with the benefit of a large hallway separating the lounge / diner and separate kitchen at the front of the house from the bedrooms at the back of the house. This layout is perfect for families with younger children as parents won't have to tiptoe around the house once the children are in bed.
The large garden on three sides of the house gives children plenty of space to run around and offers more privacy than the beach as well as being more sheltered and gives the chance to get out of the sun should you wish. The bungalow sits on a plot of approximately 1/4 acre in size and is set back from the road by about 50'
Widemouth Sands (The North Beach at Widemouth Bay) is recommended in the MCS Good Beach Guide and has something for everyone. There is a large sandy area with rocky reefs either side with fascinating rock formations, perfect for rock pooling. The beach has a "no-dog" by-law during the summer months which has obvious advantages for cleanliness and family enjoyment. Both ends of the beach are patrolled by RNLI lifeguards between 10am and 6pm in the summer season and during school holidays.
The convenience of the short level walk to and from the beach is appreciated by everyone who stays at Tanglin. It's so easy to pop back to the house for whatever reason or you can wander back along to the beach in the evening to see if the surf is worth another go. It is just the right distance away from the beach and coast road to still be close to the sea and yet far enough away from other holiday makers and the traffic on the coastal road.
Our strict 'no smoking' and 'no pets' policy mean that you can be assured that you will find no trace of other people's pets. Unless you want to take your pet on holiday with you, why would you want to stay somewhere that could have pets in it every other week of the year?
Coastal paths provide pleasant walks in both directions. There is also a choice of paths inland through woodland towards the restored Bude canal if you tire of the beach.
A local shop just 400m away combined with an award winning free-house pub just 600m away mean that you might not even use the car until it's time to leave!
"Tanglin" is our family holiday home and we enjoy our own holidays there. We do not use an agent and are delighted when our visitors make repeat bookings.

Tanglin is well equipped for six people (plus one baby).
Prices include bed linen (beds made ready for your arrival) We can also provide cot sheets. If for any reason you would prefer to supply your own bedlinen, then we offer a £30 discount on your stay.

There are 3 concrete steps up to the front door, but with walls on either side should you need extra support.
The French doors from bedroom 2 lead to the rear garden by concrete steps - Young children should not be left unsupervised.

Conditions
There are a few hours between tenancies to allow for cleaning etc. Guests should depart before 10am and are welcome to arrive any time after 3pm*
*If you give us a suitable mobile phone number, the cleaners will send a text message to you letting you know if Tanglin will be ready for you any earlier.

The West Country / Cornwall region


The North Coast of Cornwall is renowned for great surfing, walking and coastal scenery.
The Bude / Widemouth Bay area
Widemouth Bay (pronounced Wid-muth) has 2 excellent beaches (joined at mid-low tide), 2 surf hire shops, Licensed restaurant, 2 pubs (the closest of which to Tanglin is the award winning one) , Cafe, up-market tea-room, etc.
Widemouth is renowned for excellent surfing with at least 2 surf schools operating here. Its 'recommended' status in The Good Beach Guide as well as its shear size mean that people often give the Bude beaches a miss to come to Widemouth Bay.
Bude is approximately 3 miles away by car or coastal path and has many holiday amenities, which include:

There is a choice of inland paths leading to the restored Bude Canal some of which run through 'community woodland'. Rowing boat (or pedalo) hire is available on the canal for £9 per hour from the wharf in Bude by the sea lock.

Just follow the coast road for about 3 miles South from Bude, Madeira Drive is opposite the main beach car park at Widemouth Bay. Tanglin can be found after 190m on the left.

The beach is 300m level walking (even barefoot) from front door to the waters edge (depending on tide)
We have chosen the 'car not necessary' tick box option as it is possible to use public transport to get there (according to http://directgov.transportdirect.info/Web2/ ) and for us, would only take twice as long as a good day by car. The final bus stop is only 4 minutes walk from the bungalow.
We have ourselves spent 2 separate weeks without being able to use the car while we were there (fuel strikes in September 2000 then failed turbocharger on motorway a few years later and arriving with the car on the back of a transporter, only repaired just in time to go home) and still had great holidays with our very young children. The local shop provides for everyday needs, otherwise there are buses into Bude or you could take the healthy option and walk.
