Home description
Situated on the 2nd floor of a classical apartment block, WestEnd City Apartment comfortably sleeps up to 6 people. With two double bedrooms and two generous sofa beds in the living room, this spacious and practically laid out apartment is ideal for families, friends or couples alike.
The apartment is the perfect base from which to explore Budapest. It is located just over the road from Nyugati Palyaudvar - one of Budapest's three principle international train stations. This train station provides a direct connection to Budapest Airport (Ferihegy), making access to the apartment fast, easy and inexpensive.
There are a number of transport links close to the apartment from which to explore Budapest, including the underground station, Nyugati Palyaudvar, on Metro line M3, the bus and the tram.
The apartment has a pleasant vista overlooking the WestEnd City Centre shopping mall. This 3-storey complex with over 400 shops (www.westend.hu/en) is one of the largest, most diverse and arguably the most impressive shopping centre in Eastern Europe. Developed by Canada's TrizecHahn corporation, the award winning architecture is both futuristic and imposing. As well as offering an unrivaled shopping experience, WestEnd City Centre also houses a number of bars, restaurants, a cinema complex, a rooftop garden and the Hilton WestEnd Hotel.
Within easy reach from the apartment (either by foot, bus, tram or by Metro) are many of the finest and most famous locations in Budapest. The River Danube, the beautiful Margaret Island and the wonderful Parliament buildings, Liszt Ferenc Square, Andrassy Boulevard and the Opera district are all within a very pleasant 15-20 minute walk.

The Central Hungary/Danube region
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest's extensive World Heritage Site includes the banks of the River Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Boulevard, Heroes' Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the oldest in continental Europe.
The city is home to a total of 80 geothermal springs, the world's largest thermal water cave system and the largest medicinal bath in Europe (Széchenyi Medicinal Bath). Budapest also houses the largest synagogue in Europe (Dohány Street Synagogue) and the third largest Parliament building in the world, once the largest in the World.
The third largest church in Europe (Esztergom Basilica) and the second largest Baroque castle in the world (Gödöllő) both make for wonderful day trips outside of Budapest. In particular, Esztergom, Visegrad and the Danube bend provide a host of wonderful sights that can be viewed and visited by a pleasant boat trip along the River Danube.
The collections of the Natural History Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts are also both significant and magnificent.
Budapest is also famous for its art, musical recreation and nightlife. It is the home of the Hungarian State Opera House (situated on Andrassy Boulevard) and is the birthplace of Ferenc Liszt.
There is a huge range of cultural entertainment to choose from in Budapest. There are theatrical performances and concerts of classical and light music every day, with both Hungarian artists and guests from all over the world.
The Budapest Spring Festival and the Budapest Autumn Festival are two major international music, theatre, film and art festivals. The Sziget rock festival, which takes place in August is particularly popular amongst international festival-goers and each year plays host to many top class bands from around the World.
Both Liszt Ferenc Square (near the Oktogon) and Ráday utca are areas full of bars, restaurants and intimate little cafés that appeal particularly to young people. Most are open until one or two in the morning.
Budapest ranked 3rd (out of 65 cities) on Mastercard's Emerging Markets Index (2008) and was ranked as the most liveable Central/Eastern European city on The Economist Intelligence Unit's Quality of Life Index (2009). The city attracts over 20 million visitors a year and after you have visited, you will realise why.
Budapest / District 13 area
WestEnd City Apartment is located on the border of the 13th and 6th districts.
The 6th district is the 2nd most central district in Budapest. Running through this district is the famous Andrassy Boulevard, often referred to as the Champs-Elysees of Budapest. This impressive boulevard is approximately four kilometres long and ends at Heroes' Square, an amazing monument to the kings and heroes of Hungary through history. Running beneath Andrassy Boulevard is continental Europe's oldest metro line. The yellow line was constructed in 1894 and has recently been renovated and restored to its former splendor.
Andrassy Boulevard is home to many highly prestigious offices, embassies, luxury shops, restaurants and apartments. Indeed many embassies are located on or just off Andrassy Boulevard. Louis Vuitton recently also opened a store there too.
The 6th district also contains the Golden Triangle, where the three roads Andrassy Ut, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky and Terez Korut form the triangle. There are no fewer than five metro stops on the Golden Triangle. Also Liszt Ferenc Ter, one of Budapest's most vibrant pedestrian squares, packed with classy bars, cafes and restaurants, is just off Andrassy Boulevard and is a 15 minute walk from WestEnd City Apartment. In December Liszt Ferenc Ter hosts one of Budapest's many Christmas Market.
The thriving 13th district is Budapest's main business and commercial centre and is where the highest concentration of class 'A' office buildings are located. Running through the middle of this district is Vaci ut, on which the WestEnd City Apartment is located. Along this road, dozens of major international companies are based - General Electric, Exxon Mobile and Ernst & Young being but a few.
The district is bordered by the River Danube. The beautiful and serene Margaret Island, in the middle of the Danube, can be accessed from Margaret Bridge at the end of Szent Istvan Korut, approx. 15 minutes walk from WestEnd City Apartment.
How to get there
The apartment is located in the heart of Budapest, approx. 18km from Budapest Airport, also known as Ferihegy. A number of budget airlines travel to Budapest, such as Ryanair, Jet2, Wizzair, Eastjet, Germanwings and Airberlin.
The easiest and by far the cheapest way to get to the apartment from the airport is by train to Nyugati Palyaudvar (Budapest's Western Railway Station). The apartment is just over the road from train station (within 100m).
The trains leave from Ferihegy Terminal 1 every 20 minutes (even more frequently during rush hour periods) and the journey takes between 20-25 minutes.
Note: if necessary, there is a shuttlebus service between Ferihegy Terminals 2 and 1 - costing HUF 700 (approx. £2.00).
The train ticket to Nyugati Palyaudvar costs around HUF 400 (approx. £1.50). You can check the train times and even purchase your ticket online at http://elvira.mav-start.hu (although at this time the page on which you purchase tickets is only in the Hungarian language).
Alternatively, the airport operates a 24/7 shuttlebus service called 'Airport Minibusz'. For more information and to book online tickets in advance, see www.bud.hu/english/transport/airport_shuttle or www.airportshuttle.hu. The shuttlebus prices are:
HUF 2990 / person / one way ticket HUF 4990 / person / two ways ticket HUF 4490 / two persons HUF 8490 / two persons / two ways ticket
If you prefer to travel by car, a taxi from the airport will cost HUF 9900 (approx. £32.00) - one way - and can be booked online at www.budapestairporttransfers.com.
If you are planning to stay in Budapest, we would strongly suggest that a hire car is not necessary as the public transport links around Budapest are excellent. Furthermore, within a 2 minute walk from the apartment you can find the Metro Line M3, a bus service, a tram service and the train station (Nyugati Palyaudvar) if you are traveling further afield or back to the airport.
