Further details indoors:
THE FLAT: The bedroom contains 2 single beds that can be pushed together to produce a double bed if required. The third bed is a good mattress that is conveniently stored within the flat and can be quickly installed within the living room at night. The WC is located within its own room. Although there is not a separate shower, the bath tap has a shower attachment which can be used whilst bathing. The kitchen is fully equipped with the expected appliances and the cooking hob is fitted with fan ventilated extractor hood.
Further details outdoors:
The balcony has a secure masonry wall and is south facing.
THE LOCAL SHOP: There is a very good moderately sized local supermarket just 100 metres from the flat where Kun Utca meets Nepzinhaz Utca. This stocks most groceries / wine etc and should meet all your requirements for your stay.
The Central Hungary/Danube region

Budapest is a great place to take a city holiday break. The city is full of wonderful buildings, good museums, thermal baths, great restaurants and many cinemas, theatres and concert venues. The transport is as good as any major city in Europe and is very cheap. We can thoroughly recommend the 1 week transport pass (about 4400 HUF, equivalent to about £14). This covers all trams, buses and the metro system.
Many people regard Budapest as being the jewel of central Europe which has still to be fully discovered as the exceptional tourist venue it has now become.

THE GRAND KORUT AREA
District 8 is a large district with its inner location on the Grand Korut. This is one of the city's most attractive streets. The section between Blaha Lujza and Octogon is tne most exciting area for evening activities in Budapest. (SEE THE CITY MAPS IN THE PHOTO GALLERY) . It is lined with good hotels, shops and restaurants and is the route of the No. 4 and No. 6 trams. This is arguably one of the best tram routes in Europe. Trams run every 5 minutes in both directions and each of these is 6 carriages long and thoroughly modern. The flat is a short walk (or 2 stops on another tram route) from the Grand Korut.
Whilst the area around Vaci Utca (street) is great for shopping, the Grand Korut area (including LISZT FERENC TER) takes centre stage for evening activities. The flat is very close to Lizt Ferenc Ter, the hottest night spot in Budapest for restaurants. These all have large outdoor eating areas within the pedestrianized street. The OPERA HOUSE is also located close to this area (near OKTOGON).
TRANSPORT LINKS
As well as the tram system (the 4/6, 28/37 and 24 routes) district 8 is extremely well served by the metro system with METRO 2 and METRO 3 passing through the area. It takes typically about 12 minutes to reach Vaci Street from the flat by tram or bus. In addition to this, METRO 4 currently under construction will cross the district.
BLAHA LUJZA TER is an important transfer point for the Budapest transport system providing links for metro, trams and buses. Links are extremely easy with excellent road underpasses. The corner by the local tram route 28/37 also boasts a very nice modern Mcdonalds Restaurant which stays open late.
The NUMBER 24 TRAM leaves from Keleti station and passes within 200 metres of the flat in Erkel Haz. This tram route goes directly to the wonderful new CONCERT HALL (Muvesetek Palotaja) by the river near Lagymanyosi Hid (bridge). This journey takes only 10 minutes with trams every 10 minutes. The concert hall is one of the most exciting new concert halls in Europe with exceptional acoustics and a fantastic riverside location.
KELETI STATION
This is one of the 2 main stations in Budapest (the other being Nyugati). KELETI PALYUDVAR (station) is a 10 minute walk (1 stop on the 24 tram) from the flat in Erkal Haz. From here it is possible to catch main line trains to a great host of major cities in Europe. A day trip to VIENNA or BRATISLAVA is relatively straightforward. (An overnight stop would be even better.)
ARENA PLAZA
Just near Keleti station there is a massive new entertainment and shopping centre (ARENA PLAZA). This includes a large cinema complex but also a wide range of shops with long opening hours. In particular, Tesco is open until midnight.

| Airport: | Budapest: 10 km |
| Railway: | Keleti, Budapest: 0.5 km |
Most budget airlines fly to BUDAPEST TERMINAL 1, so this is the start point for our directions. The 2 most likely means of transport are TRAIN / TRAM or TAXI.
TRAIN /TRAM: On arrival we suggest using the train (unless its very late or you have a lot of luggage). The TRAIN STATION is right beside the terminal building. Buy a train ticket in the airport terminal building – 300 HUF (some trains need supplementary fare - 500HUF total). You reach the station by using the pedestrian bridge over the main road into Budapest). The platform closest to the airport is the direction for trains into Budapest – NYUGATI PALYUDVAR (station)- approx every 20 minutes.
In the city use THE TRAMS. (THE PHOTO SECTION INCLUDES TRANSPORT MAPS) Leave the station and go to the adjacent Metro line ticket office (in the underpass) and buy a Budapest transport pass (about 4400 HUF for a week – fantastic value). Go back to street level and catch a No. 4 or No. 6 TRAM to BLAHA LUJZA (trams are every 5 minutes – you need the platform furthest from the station). On arriving at Blaha Lujza walk 50 metres to the tram stop at the bottom of NEPZINHAZ UTCA and catch any tram (just 2 stops). Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and walk 100 metres along KUN UTCA to ERKEL HAZ.
TAXI: Taxis from the airport offer a fixed price of about 5000 HUF (approx £15). This is probably half what a taxi hired in the street would charge and is quite a good deal, especially if you have a lot of luggage.

Guestbook for Erkel Haz - A
This property has just come onto the holiday rental market so we are just getting our first recommendations.
‘Just a quick e-mail to say we had a wonderful time in Budapest. Your flat is lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. It is great value for money and very spacious for a one bedroom flat. The kitchen was well equipped and small touches like the availability of DVDs was much appreciated. All the instructions that you gave both by e-mail and on your website were very useful.’ – Jane (Glasgow)
