The Central Hungary/Danube region
Budapest tourist information
Budapest, the capital of the Hungarian Republic, lies in the center of the Carpathian Basin in Europe, on both sides of the river Danube. It has an area of 525 square km. It's population of about 2 millions is 20 per cent of the country's total.
Due to a fault line shaping the course of the Danube valley, a great number of thermal springs came to the surface at Budapest. Budapest's reputation as a spa is based on these wells. Budapest is the world's only metropolis, where there are more than 130 thermal springs and wells. Budapest's twenty public baths from Turkish and wave baths, over open-air swimming-pools and hydro-therapeutic establishments to spa hotels, offer a wide range of services.
Yearly temperature is 11 grade Celsius, the average July temperature being 22°C, and the January one: -1°C. The average yearly rainfall is about 600 mm.
It is a meeting point of North and South, East and West. The inter-crossing cultures are blended into a unique synthesis, while remaining characteristically Hungarian. You may acquire maximum firsthand experience of this every March, at the Budapest Spring Festival where in 100 venues, there are 1000 events to be seen and heard, from concert to traditional fairs, from exhibitions to mime shows, from computer competitions to folk-dancing parties.
Budapest conducts its business with a maximum of seriousness: it has administrative, academic and economic central offices and institutions, universities, factories, two international fairs every year. International congresses and conferences. But Budapest is also a carefree, happy place, with casinos, a circus, a race track, and a lively night life. From Budapest the reform of the system of economic management was launched, and from Budapest it was that the magic Rubik cube started on its world-conquering journey.
Budapest provides maximum relaxation with its parks, esplanades, the promenade on the Danube Embankment - and it offers maximum refreshment with its medicinal baths - including Europe's oldest indoor thermal-water swimming-pool, its lidos and sporting facilities. Budapest is a venue of World Cup competitions, European and world championships, and at the Hungaroring, near Budapest, the Hungarian Grand Prix Formula One race is held. In Budapest, you have the opportunity for horseback riding and, in winter, for skiing. You can angle and practise karate, play tennis and bowling. Time is something that is always in short supply. But, as testified by international analyses, prices in Budapest, as against other large cities, are very reasonable indeed.
As a sign of maximum recognition of all this, UNESCO has added the Danube panorama, with the Castle of Buda, to the World Cultural Heritage List.
Benczur street is a just a walk from Andrássy street (part of world Heritage). Kodály Körönd M1 metro stop is 100 m. In the street restaurant, cafe, beauty salon. The Hero's Square, Széchenyi Bath, and ZOO are one metro step. In the VI. district are Nyugati Railway Station, Westend City Shopping Center, Benczur -house, Puppet Theater, Opera-house, House of Terror, Hopp Ferenc East Asian Art Museum, Academy of Music, Operetta Theater, Ráth György Museum.
Be our guest in this renewed apartment!
