Parliament Apartment
About the home
This spacious apartment combines the best of old Budapest in a classic 100-year-old building with Art Nouveau furnishings, and the new, with a Satellite plasma screen TV and modern renovated kitchen and bathroom.
The house is right around the corner from Parliament and steps away from the Danube embankment, with its lovely views over to Buda. The recently renovated Szabadság square is nearby, as is Budapest's main street for art and antiques.
With tram, metro and bus stops almost right outside the door, none of the city's attraction or nightlife are far away.

The Central Hungary/Danube region

Sitting at an intersection of many diverse cultures, Hungary has absorbed the cultural influences of Turks, Habsburgs and Soviets into its own extensive traditions. Just north of Budapest is the former Serbian enclave and artists' colony of Szentendre. A little further is the hilltop castle of Visegrád, home to Hungary's mightiest medieval kings. South of the city, the Statue Park holds Eastern Europe's only extensive collection of monumental communist-era sculpture. To the east, Gödöllo hosts a 19th-century holiday mansion of the ruling Habsburgs, and is a local wine centre.
The Budapest / District 5 area
Just steps away from the apartment, the view across the Danube from Pest to Buda is listed as a Unesco World Heritage site for its spectacular beauty both day and night. The city itself has a riot of architectural styles both on its expansive boulevards and the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter. Budapest is already famous for its exotic and refreshing thermal baths.
Culturally, the extensive Fine Arts Museum deserves to be better known, while its tradition of fine classical music is well-established. Contemporary and classical music especially flourishes with the annual Spring Festival. Growing prosperity has brought an array of fine restaurants and a lively, sophisticated nightlife scene.

►Various budget airlines operate flights from cities in the UK and Ireland to Ferenc Liszt International airport, Budapest.
►The airport is approximately 25km from the city centre, travel time is 30-40 minutes.
► Airport minibus service available door-to-door. Only worthwhile if you are travelling alone.
►Fõtaxi operates at a fixed price from the airport to the centre. This is a cheaper option than the airport minibus if two or more travellers are taking the taxi.

We initially booked this accommodation for four days but loved it (and Budapest) so much we ended up extending our stay for another week. The apartment is even more spacious and elegant than it appears in the photographs, and the huge TV with satellite, free Wi-Fi and other modern conveniences were to hand. Situated next to the Parliament building; and minutes away from metro, bus and tram links, makes it convenient for all the main sights and tourist attractions. Despite being within walking distance of the city centre, the apartment was also extremely quiet with no traffic noise. Our English speaking host Monica was very helpful; making recommendations for places to eat, advice on how to get around the city and other useful information. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a home from home when staying in Budapest; and we liked it so much we came back for a couple of nights when we needed a stop-over on our way from Hungary to Belgrade in Serbia. |
