About the home
This beautiful, city-centre 110 square meter apartment is situated on one of the main boulevards (Erzsebet Korut); in a grand 19th century building (featured in the guidebook "Budapest Walks ") . The apartment is on the first floor and can be reached through a large elegant staircase or lift from the central courtyard. The apartment porch has 2 doors - one leading to the a larger, fully renovated one-bedroomed self-contained unit and the other to a self-contained studio apt. Trips down the Danube make a great day's excursion from Budapest.
Budapest is wonderful at Christmas and New Year and completely different in the heat of Summer. If you are thinking of going you will no doubt have done your research so there is no point in putting in a mini guide here.
The Budapest / District 6 area
However, it is an easy city to get around, especially from this apartment and there is a wide variety of things to see be it museums, parks, Danube trips or visits to the concert hall, basilica or opera. Over the past decade the standard of restaurants has risen and Budapest has some of the best eating places in Eastern Europe. There is just a great atmosphere of ease and enjoyment!

Renting this first floor flat turned out to be the best decision of our short break in Budapest. It is located in a listed building on Erzsebet Korut, one of the main streets of the Old Pest city. The flat looks out onto a quiet residential street parallel to the main road so it feels quiet and relaxed. Behind it there are charming small squares and restaurants. The central location means it is only a short walk away from many of the must-see sights including the Opera House, House of Terror and the New York Palace hotel serving 'the best chocolate cake and coffee in the world! There is a tram stop just outside and the underground station (Oktogon) is only 200m away on the junction with the elegant Andrassy Ut boulevard , modelled on the Champs Elysee. Staying in this location made us feel part of the lively and cosmopolitan central Budapest life. The flat did not disappoint either. It is stylishly decorated and feels very spacious and uncluttered. It has fantastically high ceilings – 20 feet above floor at least. There is a helpful and gregarious Irish property manager who is on hand to answer questions and was very helpful when it came to general advice and travel to the station and airport. |

We just rented the 'studio' apartment for a fortnight as the other flat was already rented out. The two are completely seperate, after the outer door. Actually it's much more than a 'studio': there is a huge main room with twin beds, sofa, armchair, TV etc; an ensuite shower room off; plus a large seperate kitchen-diner. A friend of the agent (an architect), met us at the airport and gave a running commentary on architectural sights as we passed. Irish agent, Daniel Long, popped in next day and spent over half an hour telling us about the city's history & attractions - about which he's very knowledgeable & enthusiastic! (Also a very amenable guy). He also drove us back at the end - still enthusing. The flat would have been easy enough to find - it could hardly be more central, right opposite the 5* Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal on one of the main boulevards. Within about 300 metres are: 3 supermarkets, variety of shops, bank with ATM, all-night tram stop, metro, buses, restuarants, take-aways, bars & a concert hall. It's about 8 minutes walk to the State Opera House (incredible value seats). Despite its location, it was actually very quiet as it was between an inner courtyard and a rear 'service' road. The high-ceilinged apartment was newly decorated in modern style with Ikea furniture, clean and tidy. Everything worked and the place felt cool, despite high temperatures outside. It was excellent value for money. Only gripes: (a) the only programes available in English on the TV were CNN News & an American sports channel; (b) I found the duvets a bit hot. The glory of the entrance way was somewhat faded - as is much of the city. We have no hesitation in recommending this apartment to others and will probably visit again - though we'd choose the other apartment, if it was free, as it's bigger and the furnishings more luxurious. |
