The Central England/Cotswolds region

Tingewick is just outside Buckingham, now a small market town, but it used to be the county town of Buckinghamshire. The town is centred on the historic market place and contains many 18th century buildings.

The town is home to one of the UK's two private universities, the University of Buckingham. Stowe House, just outside Buckingham, was formerly the country seat of the Dukes of Buckingham and Chandos, the House is now occupied by Stowe School. The landscaped gardens, including its many monuments, were acquired by the National Trust in 1990, and are open to the public. The National Trust is currently overseeing a complete restoration programme of the grounds, temples and follies.

Buckingham

Tingewick has a wealth of activities on its doorstep. Silverstone Circuit, home of British Motorsport, is only 7 miles away. Silverstone hosts the British Grand Prix each July. You could also have an easy day out to the Cotswolds, Oxford, Warwick Castle or Stratford on Avon.

Tingewick has a well stocked village shop combined with post office. There are two pubs in the Main Street: The Crown and the Royal Oak. Both serve food. There is also The Red Lion at Little Tingewick one and a half miles west of Tingewick near the western end of the A421bypass.

Tescos is 4 miles away just outside Buckingham at the junction of the A413 and A421. Buckingham has Waitrose and a number of pubs and eating places. Market days are Tuesday and Saturday.

Bicester is of course home to the Bicester Village Outlet Centre (9 miles).

"A superb Lodge!"

A wonderful lodge for our week away! Firstly, the photos do not do it justice! It is far lovelier! The decor and furnishings throughout were of a high standard and the kitchen has a lovely range cooker. The owners had thought of everything to provide a comfortable stay and they were the perfect hosts! When we arrived, we were shown around and made to feel most welcome! A wonderful welcome basket also awaited us that was more than generous - such a kind thought!
I stayed with my mum, who has arthritis, and having a downstairs cloak was a real help!
Although the weather wasn't really warm enough to sit out, the garden was beautifully kept and was visited by a range of birds!
I would recommend Tingewick lodge to anyone and we definitely plan to go back for another holiday!
