2224 - Mill Cottage
About the home
This stone-built detached cottage is located by the side of a stream on a quiet lane in the heart of Buckden, one of the prettiest villages in Wharfedale Valley. Just 12 miles from Hawes, this former saw mill has been lovingly renovated and now combines original character - such as old beams and exposed stonework - with contemporary comforts. With a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove and a bathroom with feature roll top bath, this property also features a patio overlooking the pretty stream. With the attractions of the village just moments away and the town of Hawes within easy driving distance, this is a well-situated cottage to explore everything that the surrounding countryside has to offer.

The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
From heather-clad moors and bold limestone scars, to lively market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer? Surely, nowhere as much as in the Yorkshire Dales?
Both a National Park and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region’s stunning scenery includes rolling hay meadows, striking limestone formations, grand heather-laden moors and picture-postcard perfect villages. A paradise for walkers, the Yorkshire Dales attract enthusiasts from far and wide as the long distance Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast routes pass through the area. Cycling through the Dales is also popular – keen cyclists will enjoy the varied scenery and occasional ‘hilly’ sections of the 130 miles of Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, as it winds its way through Swaledale, Wensleydale and Coverdale. All of this, as well as exploring the imposing rock formations, echoing caves and potholes, will satisfy the most adventurous spirit, whilst Semer Water, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, will keep any water-sport enthusiast happy. If you’re looking for more relaxing pursuits, there’s much more to see than magnificent scenery. Stone-built villages nestling in valley bottoms, picturesque towns with vibrant craft centres and markets, imposing castles, stunning gardens and fine architecture are all part of the Dales’ appeal.
Grassington, Wharfedale’s main town, boasts beautiful cobbled streets and quaint shops that take the visitor on a journey back in time, whilst the lively town of Hawes is home to the award winning Dales Countryside Museum, a fascinating range of shops and craft galleries and a sample or two of the famous ‘Wensleydale’ cheese at the Creamery is a treat not to be missed!
The Buckden, Yorkshire area
Set at the foot of Buckden Pike near the head of Upper Wharfedale, the idyllic village of Buckden is a wonderful holiday destination for any walking enthusiast. Much of Upper Wharfedale is owned by the National Trust and retains its traditional dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valley-side woodland. The varied surrounding countryside offers a number of bridleways, cycling trails and paths whilst the village itself is composed of a cluster of stone built cottages and houses with a traditional green in the centre. The green is home to the famous 'Buck Inn' - a lovely Georgian construction retaining much of its old charm.

A lovely comfortable warm cottage, a couple of negative points is there is no shower, and no sun shine in the evening, shaded as under trees. And the pub in the village was close. But the area was... more |

,Mill Cottage is a lovely property and a good base for those who like walks, close enough to larger towns to shop whilst still being far enough away to enjoy the countryside.
