Marolles (French) or Marollen (Dutch) is an ancient district of Brussels, situated between the Law Courts of Brussels (Palace of Justice) and the Brussels-South railway station. In the heart of Marollen can be found the Église de la Chapelle/Kapellekerk and the Place du Jeu de balle/Vossenplein. Major arteries of the neighborhood include the rue Haute/Hoogstraat, the rue Blaesstraat and the rue des Tanneurs/Huidevetterstraat. Inhabitants of the district are called Marolliens.

"Lovely apartment, close to Brussels Midi; stairs & beer might not mix!"
One of our highest priorities was proximity to Brussels Midi train station, and this lovely apartment is less than 10 minutes walk away from there, and still only a leisurely walk from the main square. Do check the exit from the station- it's the other end from where the Eurostar comes in- but once on Fonsny Ave, it's a quick walk along Rue de Angleterre, then veer left across the Blvd onto Rue de Blaas. This end of town isn't touristy, but there were some lovely bars very close by, and a supermarket 2 minutes walk away. A playground is behind a gate, slightly to the left after exiting the apartment.
The photos represent well what the inside of the apartment look like; what they can't clearly convey is that it is multi level. From the glass door on the main street, it is up a level to the kitchen, another level to the living space ( toilet between the two), and above the living area is the main bedroom and bathroom - with very comfortable bed, great towels and lovely shower. The stairs were fine for us, however there are only railings on some, so sampling every beer on offer might not be the best idea!
Dan was a helpful host, happy to point us in the direction of the sights and the shops. When we discovered the (critical) bottle opener was missing, he immediately went and replaced it.
We really enjoyed our stay here, and would recommend it to others- especially those who self cater, and like to walk, but don't necessarily need to be in the middle of the tourist hot spots.
