Home description

This is one of the finest homes on Lake Lugano surrounded on three side by Switzerland, but in a small village on the lake away from the traffic you will find in Como, Lugano, Porlezza, etc. There are few if any tourists but several restaruants and one small hotel within walking distance. There is a market each week, and supermarkets very close by. The house is decorated with fine modern furniture and cheerful Every room but two look out on the Lake and all have terraces and patios. There are 2.5 bathrooms. You are 1.5 hours to St. Moritz or a bit more in the snow. Speed boat rental within walking distance, swimming, water ski, skiing in winter very close for rec. skiing, two hours or less for elite skiing. Milan is 35 minutes by car. Varese is 15 minutes by car.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

The Italian Lakes are famous the world round. There is Lake Lugano, in the lower Alps, Como, Maggiore all within less than a half hour drive from each other. Lake Lugano in the South is reserved mainly for singel family homes and small villages like Porto Ceresio and Brusimpiano. There are very few tourist in the area because there is not a lot of availability. Yet you can be close to all and still be able to have a quiet and restful time - or a week or two actrive in all sports, hiking, fishing, ballooning, shopping in Milan and Lugano and more. The beauty of the area is really indescribable and has been attracting elite travelers for centuries. one of the best things about this area is Lugano Airport - served by two airlines and superbly simple with no lines, no hassle with security and in an open parklike setting. From there you can be in any European capital in a few hours or less via Zurich or Geneva. You can drive to Florience in three hours, Mnilan in under an hour or less. Lugano is ten to fifteen minutes away. The Swiss border surrounds the house on three sides (E,S, N) and there is a wonderful forest park just above the house also in walking distance. There is hiking on the property itself.

Brusimpiano area

The town of Brusimpiano has many small festivals throughout the year and beautiful small churches. Ardena is just above. The weekly Market - a huge one - is ten minutes away on the Swiss border - Italian side in Ponte Tresa. The Swiss love to shop there and of course the Italians. Lugano has world class shipping so you need not drive into Milan if it does not interest you. There are several marinas and a large one with rental facilities just a few hundred yards up the lake road to which you can walk. Speed boats rent for about 800 Euros a week or 125 Euros a day (subject to change as always!) From the house you look directly over the town which is very picturesque and unmarred. The trees are lovely including Palms of several types, planters, beech and maple.

How to get there

The best way to arrive is either by fast train to Lugano or fly into Lugano Airport. You can also train into Milan or fly into Milan Malpensa but of course this is further away. Driving is easy - just head to Lugano and follow the signs to Lake Lugano. (ILago Lugano). You and then 10-15 minutes away.

All the furnishings are modern from companies like B&B Italia, Knoll, and Norway, Sweden. Original paintings, photographs. 2 acres of parkland - all fenced for any pets, children, etc. Light paved hiking trials around property. THE HOME IS AIR CONDITIONED and heated (there is electricity charges but each room is controlled individually and has air cleaners, humidity controls etc.) There is a full time house man either in residence, or for a small charge lives out but comes in every day from 10 until 6 or in house 24/7. He also can do light cooking. The house man will shop for you, or take him with you for packages. You can rent a BMW station wagon from us for less than EURO 300 a week plus gas. PETS ARE OKAY, SMOKERS ARE OKAY but should smoke outside. The entire house opens to the gardens and the lake with french doors in every room.

Of course the "sea view" is a lake view - one of the most beautiful in Europe. We can also arrange for you to use the pool at hotel in walking distance. We can arrange golf at the Lugano Golf Club - only 10 minutes away, or at other clubs in Varese or toward Milano. We can arrange a chef and can stock your groveries and liquor in advance. We try to provide an elegant amount of service without a lot of fuss. This is one of the prime biking areas in the Lower Alps and is used for olympic and international practice. You can bring your bike, or rent one nearby. Every room in the house has sat. television and access to the outdoors on terraces and patios. The dining room opens with 16 foot doors to the main terrace off the dining room and kitchen for large parties. You are completely without neighbors on either side and cannot see a neighboring house save in winter - and only on the road below. PETS ARE FINE. CATS are a problem for one of our allergy prone. But dogs, lizards and most all are okay. If you have a really werid pet - please alert us first!

This is a high quality property, Kids are very welcome, but there are deposits required - so make certain they are well-behaved? We have kids and believe they are welcome anywhere! Deposits are due immediately upon booking by wire transfer and full payment is due one month before unless this is last minute. We can arrange last minute bookings if needed. There is a full library of English books and some Italian books. If you are serious about wines there is an underground stone room next to the laundry room. All appliances are the best and AMerican built - all stainless with icemaker, and all other appliances including dishwasher, wall oven, etc.

Conditions

There are special requirements for Easter weeks and Christmas week. The rents are a bit higher and usually booked well in advance. SMOKING OUTSIDE ONLY PLEASE!

There are charges for metered electric. Each room can be heated or air conditioned as you wish or not and for as long or short a time by remote control. There is a land line telephone - free for local calls - as used for long distance and overseas calls. You can also arrange for a cell phone through us. There is a standard fax machine in the house and charged by the cost of the call only. There is also a full computer set up, with flat screen, scanner and printer as well as high speed internet ISDN. You can rent a great conition almost as new BMW for 150 pounds a week - you buy the petrol. If you wish the house man to live out - It will cost an additional 125 pounds, Also please think of him upon your departure! So few do.
