The West Flanders region

Bruges is a very beautiful town. The city center is totally on the world heritage list. It is save and lovely. There is a lot of green and there al a lot of canals. Bruges has also a lot of good chiefs in the kitchen. The region is star studded. There are 2 restaurants with three stars (Hertog Jan and the Karmeliet) but there are also two and one star restaurants and a lot of very nice bistro's and places to eat. Local chiefs are real kings here. You can visit the city by bike. There are also a a lot of shops. Chocolate you can buy in every streat. In the summer there are also a lot of events. The city is also romantic and nice and every periode of the year.

If you are with kids you can aslo go to the Boudewijnpark where there is a dolfinarium.

In the city center there are 525 monuments and there are 6600 houses on the heritage list. Must sees : The market square, the belfry, the Balilica of the Holy blood, Church of our Lady, the city Hall, Beguine's house, Concert Hall, Groeninge Museum, ....

The economic affluence of the 15 th century brought rich mercants to Bruges. They loved into majectic city palaces, packed with works of art. In the wake of the Burgundian dynasty, the great Flemish Primitives, including Jan van Eyck and Hans Memling found their creative niches in Bruges.

The fine arts reigned supremely and Bruges quickly became the meeting place and source of inspiration for many artists. The world famous masterpieces and other top collections can be seen in one of the 24 Bruges Museums. Bruges' city ramparts are green (7 km) and very nice to bike on. There are also a lot of bridges. Sometimes the say that Bruges is the venice of the nord.

Bruges

You can visit Bruges but als Gent, Antwerp and Amsterdam, Paris and Londen from Bruges. Bruges is never far away. In one hour you are in Brussels and in 25 min in Gent. To Paris you travel with the train in three hours. In the summer the sea is only 15 km away. You can go to Knokke are De Haan.
