The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District National Park is a delightful place to visit. This end of the Lake District National Park is a little less crowded than some parts, having the mountains, lakes and the beautiful Irish sea and beaches of Haverigg and Silecroft.

The Vikings actually landed here and thought it a jolly nice place so they built many of their settlements around this little sandy inlet. The Romans liked it too. Hard Knott pass having a Roaman fort nestled on its steep slopes with Roman Baths in the near by quaint little seaside village of Ravenglass.

Fantasitc views, of lakes and sea and mountains its all in the South Lakes. Wasdale being about 55 min drive is known to have the highest Mountain, the deepest lake and the smallest Church!

Great for walkers, cycling, horse riding, water sports, etc or simply looking at the views and taking it easy. Near to the lakes and also the sea.

Historic houses and gardens in abundance for example, Holker Hall, Sizer Castle, Levens Hall and Muncaster Castle to name but a few. There are also many national trust properties in this area ie Dove Cottage in Grasmere one of the homes of our great lakeland poet William Wordsworth. In fact the Duddon Valley just over the hill from Moss Side farm was said to be one of Wordsworths best place to visit.

South Lakes Animal Park is a great fun day out for the children located just outside the town of Dalton in Furness, about a 20min drive from the farm.

Ever thought of riding a shire horse up a mountain or galloping along a beach, well you can. The world famous Cumbria Heavy Horse Centre is based in the Whicham Valley, aprox 15 mins from our Farm. If the big horses are a little too big then for pony trekking we have Muirthwaite Green, Crook Barn and Spoon Hall Trekking Centres all within a 25 min drive. Our nearest Village is Broughton in Furness, lovely historic Village being just 7 min by car or a footpath takes you from the farm to the village square. the village has an award winning bakery, a fine family butchers and grocers, post office and newagent, 3 pubs 1 restaurant and 2 cafes along with petrol station, gift shop, tourist information and 2 churches who give a warm welcome to any straying lambs from other flocks!
