The Herefordshire region

The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was first designated in 1971, covering 128 square miles from Mordiford near Hereford, through Ross-on-Wye, Symonds Yat and on to Chepstow in the south. It is an internationally important protected landscape, one of the most dramatic and scenic areas in southern Britain. It is the only AONB to straddle the border between England and Wales.

The market town of Ross-on-Wye is the only town within the AONB (the boundary closely skirts the towns of Monmouth and Hereford).

Bromsash

Perfectly situated on the edge of the small rural hamlet of Bromsash and surrounded on three sides by the wide open fields of rural Herefordshire. Eastview is just 3 miles from Ross-on-Wye and has good road access to all the popular tourist attractions the area has to offer.

Eastview is at the edge of this hamlet, with outstanding views across Herefordshire countryside (see picture - view from the garden).

There is a wealth of footpaths in the area making it ideal for walking, either from the doorstep or within a short drive away.

The South Herefordshire Golf Club is just a few minutes away on the edge of Bromsash and overlooks Hartleton Lakes where some fine fishing is available.View from the garden.

Click on the picture to the right to open up a new page on May Hill (the group of trees seen in the view from Eastview.) This a local focal point and tourist attraction.

There are good shopping facilities in the nearby market town of Ross-on-Wye . A village shop and garage can be found at the Lea (2 miles away).

Bromsash is has good road access to the local tourist attractions at Hereford, Gloucester, Newent, Dymock, Much Marcle, Monmouth, The Malverns, The Forest of Dean, Ross-on-Wye and the Wye Valley.

A quiet rural area without being remote.

There are local taxi providers and a local bus once a week. For a more regular service, the nearest bus is 1 mile away. It is recommended that you travel here by car.

Ariconium - Roman settlement

To the West of Eastview and either side of the road leading from Bromsash to Bollitree Castle. it is generally held that 250 acres either side of the Lane was occupied as a Roman iron working settlement. At Hask Barn (the Barn remains on the North side of this lane) iron smelting furnaces and slag pits have been found; this possibly being the main industrial site. The South side of the lane is believed to be the site of the Ariconium village. Archaeological finds include roman coins, brooches and bowl furnaces.

An excavation in 1920 uncovered part of an 8-12ft wide road running south of Penyard Hill. This is believed to be part of the roman route from Blestium (Monmouth) to Ariconium. This you can see if you walk from Weston-under-Penyard to Dancing Green.

"Absolutely perfect"

We came to a wedding in Ross and stayed to walk for 2 weeks. The hosts were lovely and immediately fixed a few little snags. It was a great base to walk the Wye Valley, the Forest of Dean, do part of several long distance trails, explore the Malvern Hills, canoe the Wye, walk along the Severn. Everything provided was luxurious and comfortable. A great place to come back to after hours on foot. Excellent walking and tourist info provided too.

"Probably the nicest self catering property anyone could want."

We have stayed in the annexe at Eastview twice. The accommodation is simply first class,a kitchen area with all one could need,a delightful dining area, lounge with coffee table, two leather couches and a modern tv and DVD player. There is also a neat bathroom with both bath and shower. On the upper floor is a large airy and bright bedroom with a king sized bed dressing table and good storage space. The annexe is beautifully decorated throughout and outside is a dedicated sitting area.

"Lovely in everyway"

Ideal location. Quiet location with fantastic views across conuntryside. Very warm welcome. Gave us all the info we asked for and more. Maps, books and car trip CD were very helpful. Places where to eat were just as described and you are spoilt for choice. Accomodation is of a very high standard. Attention to detail made it special. This was one of the best accomodations we have stayed in over the years and was no means the most expensive, very good value for money. We hope we will be back at some time.

"Room with a view"

Great cottage conversion ideal for two people. Great views golf up the road, ideal for us. All that's was needed for a short break that we had and certainly everything there for a longer stay. Had to go home early because of threatened snow which turned out to be smart move but hope to return and see more of the area. Would recommend to anyone
