The Shropshire region
Sherburn is only 10 miles away from the Yorkshire Coast seaside town of Scarborough and is the UK's first official holiday seaside resort, which is the largest on the Yorkshire dinosaur Coast, and is set in the beautiful north Yorkshire moors, from which you can tour around to all of the beautiful little villages and places of interest of which there are just too many to list, Sherburn is only 5 minutes drive to the well known 'Ganton Golf Course'.
Sherburn village is located halfway between Scarborough and Malton, Scarborough with its 12th Century castle has two award winning beaches, the famous Peasholm Park, Spa Complex, Sea Life Marine Sanctuary, Stephen Joseph Theaatre by the famous playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourne, and not forgetting the Rotunda Museum.
Only a few miles further by car to Whitby in Goathland heartbeat country. Originally an early medieval settlement, and has the ruins of an 11th century Castle sitting on top of a very rocky headland, which is surrounded by the north and south bays of Scarborough.
The small resort of Filey only a short car journey away, and Bridlington not too far down the coast. The city of York is a mere 30 miles away, with 'flamingo land' zoo and theme park which is very close to market town of Pickering which is approx 8 miles.
I could write lots more about this whole area with its outstanding natural beauty, but the best and most exciting way is to just come and explore for yourself. In all the years I have lived here the climate has never been too harsh in the winter, mild and sunny spring, and nice warm summers reaching up to 27c, which makes it an all year round experience, and has something to offer everyone from the very young to the old.
The village of Sherburn Nr Malton dates back to Saxon times....hence the house name 'Saxon's Rest' being appropriate. This is a beautiful area to choose a family holiday, nestling in the vale of Pickering, with the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Wolds Way running close by.
This is a wonderful historic part of the UK and is truly the ideal place to have a rural retreat holiday, ideal for walking, sightseeing and general country life. Malton boasts a large market town with lots of shops to choose from, the historic city of York is only a 35-40 minute drive and boasts the wonderful York Minster, the Shambles with its quaint little cobbled street and olde worlde shops, the famous York museum well worth a visit as only around 35 miles away. Also Pickering is only a short drive away and the famous Pickering to Grosmont steam railway is a fantastic outing the kids would love, also Flamingo Land theme park is very close to Pickering and you need a full day to explore the site, Eden Camp is very close to Malton if you want to experience the WW2 era.

"A little more attention to detail needed."
I had a few issues so emailed the owner directly on the day we returned home. I wanted to give them the opportunity to privately discuss the points I raised before writing a public review, but I didn&… More
Hi, I'm sorry that some of your holiday was not to your requirements, most of the points made have been rectified apart from the mattresses which are still fit for purpose but we are upgrading them this year with all new ones as we take constructive critic seriously. I was disappointed that after speaking with you and you agreed that I had replied on two occasions but that you didn't see your emails before you left this one, which makes me look ignorant but I always reply to emails quickly on enquiries or on the odd occasion if a guest needs something. All in all most of our guests are very happy with the house. Sue

Thank you so much for your lovely comments you have made, and we are very pleased that you did appreciate the lovely home and its space and especially the homely 'coal fire' which sets the theme on a winters evening, imagining a group of family and friends gathering around the lounge enjoying each others company. We do pride ourselves on giving a great personal service and good level of cleanliness to all our guests. Again many thanks for this great review and hope to see you again sometime, regards from our team.

"A perfect house for a large family"
We were a group of ten persons, and the house fitted perfectly to our needs. Equipment and conditions of the property are completely satisfactory and the house has served as basis for interesting visits in the area: York, Yorkshire Moors, the coast between Scarborough and Whitby, etc.
Thank you so much for your lovely review of this beautiful cottage, it is a new addition to our holiday home business this year and we are very proud to be able to offer this at a very sensible price and far cheaper than the larger agencies in the area. We pride ourselves on giving a good level of service and cleanliness to all our guests. We have been in the hospitality trade for many years (since 1986)and hope that we get many returning visitors. We will continue to make your stay as comfortable as possible and be on hand for any problems that may arise, thank you again.
