About the home

The Barn was formerly a Pressoir where they made the cider and Calvados, it was converted three years ago to a very high standard. It has been completely rewired with new floors, new kitchen, new bathroom, but we have retained the original beams it is very pretty. Black out blinds in two bedrooms.

It is set in 2 acres, mostly grass and fruit trees, overlooking open fields, great walks on empty roads.
It has a large comfortable living room and a well equipped kitchen and three large bedrooms and jacuzzi bath and seperate walk in jacuzzi shower. Lots to see and do.

There is a jacuzzi bath and seperate walk in Jacuzzi shower, a large lounge and well equipped kitchen we have tried to make it home from home. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with a kingsize bed. There are a further two bedrooms one with twin singles and another cosy double with a dorma window overlooking the garden. Two of the bedrooms have blackout blinds. There is another toilet and hand basin upstairs for all the bedrooms to use

The cottage is in a very quiet area surrounded by open farmland. There is plenty of room for kids to enjoy.
It has got a splash pool it is about 3ft deep which is shared with the other property in the grounds.

If you enjoy cooking we can arrange for you to cook and eat with a top chef at a local Chateau please ask for more details

Further details

Although the cottage is in the same grounds as another property they are separated by a fence and are not near each other. The Swimming pool is a fixed sided one 4ft and was new last year.

Conditions

A deposit of non refundable £100 is required when you book and the final sum should be sent at least 6 weeks before you arrive. When you arrive a refundable deposit of £100 is required by cheque which will only be cashed if there are any breakages.

The Normandy / Eure region

Broglie (5 min drive) has a farmers market every Friday. A 10 minute drive to Orbec and there is a large supermarket, petrol station and a larger selection of shops and restaurants.
The larger town of Bernay is 15 minutes away which boasts medieval buildings, river, and large market on a Saturday morning which is a defintate must see. The train station in Bernay has direct trains into Paris (1hr 20mins) and there is plenty of parking avaliable, often free.

The area is famous for Calvados (apple liquor), cider and pommeau (sweet apple wine), all made with local apples. The countryside is beautiful all year with the blossom in spring, apples in summer and an array of colour in autumn making it exceptionally attractive at any time of the year. There are many cheeses made locally too, with the most famous being Camembert, just a short drive to the village of the same name, home to the factory, which is well worth a visit. There is also a lovely fairytale castle in the region and many more things to see and do, including a cycle/walk path along an old railway line into the local main town of Bernay.

Further afield are the coastal towns of Honfleur and Deuville an hours drive away hosting lovely beaches, fine dining and scenic views. Half an hour away there is a large lake at Brionne with boats for hire and other watersports along with miniture golf.
There is a golf course just outside Bernay.
The Tour de France is coming to Liseaux 20 minutes away on the 7th July.

The Broglie area

The local region has a lot to offer St Aubin is located only 25km from the cathedral town of Lisieux in the heart of the Pays d'Auge region well known for its cider and cheese making traditions. The resort town of Deauville (55km) famous for its annual film festival. is a must see for visitors to this part of France, while a short drive away lies the pretty port of Honfleur attracting artists and holidaymakers from all over the world.

Take the ferry to Calais and take the motorway to Rouen, go through Rouen and pick up the motorway A13 carry on till you get to the new motorway the A28.

Leave at exit 15 Orbec and follow signs to St Aubin du Thenney then take the first left in front of the church and take the left fork, carry on down country lanes take the first right and first left the cottage is on the left. It is newly painted so you can't miss it.

“Just a train ride to Paris set in beautiful Normandy countryside” La Torque is ideally set in countryside in between two pretty provincial towms Bernay and Orbec. Within easy reach of the Normandy beaches, thirty minutes sway from the Normandy capital Rouen and a train ride away from Paris; La Torque offers an excellent base from which to explore. As the countryside is fairly flat even the inexperienced cyclist can enjoy the local counntry lanes in safety and confidence. Orbec sits upon the river Charentonne and for those who enjoy fishing you can follow its couse through to Broglie where there is a riverside park and walk. We have stayed at La Torque several times and was attracted back not only because it offered excellent value for money, and was ideally placed but gave us all the amenties any family would require; i.e a barn refurbished to a high stanard which is maintained regularly where the owners are close enough to provide help and support but are not intrusive. “quite retreat” As we went out of season we were pleasantly suprised with the weather and accomdation close to the small town of orbec which we enjoyed very typical french village easy to find lovely walks and great for cycling very flat lanscape all in all a good place to escape to and enjoy some wine Response: Thank you for the review we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay.

“Something for everybody.” Relaxing holiday in cosy warm roomy accommodation. Easy access to Paris, Caen, Honfleur, Liseaux Zoo, Liseaux Cathedral , D-Day beaches and authentic French markets. “Save your money stay at home!!!” We arrived at the barn mid day. To be greeted by the owner who let us in to the property. We were informed that '' She was not quite sure what we would do as it was out of season'' This should of been advised at point of agreement as it may have saved us driving 1000 miles in 5 days to entertain ourselves! The barn was lovely upon arrival and first inspection, HOWEVER when it come to unpacking it was quite clear the place had not been cleaned the kitchen units and cooker (yes cooker) contained a lot ( 6/7 per unit) of dead spiders and fly's (yes I know it's a barn, but come on) There was a lot of mould around the toilet, and shower, and bath and a mouse trap in the bedroom. I used the luxury Jacuzzi bath once and was horrified at the dirt that came out when u turned the jets on. The shower was that poor we only used it twice in our 6 day stay. We also found if we'd had luck with the weather we would have been unable to use the pool due to the 3 inches of muck on top of the water! The outside lights including security lights had been disconnected ( not ideal since barn is in the sticks and pitch black if you arrived home late the risk of injury was high) Terrace area was nice however the BBQ looked as though it had seen allot of rain and sun to say the least as it was very rusty/dirty and not usable!! It states in the advert that they have a friendly horse in the neighboring field. What it does not state is they are accompanied by a large gaggle of geese who squawk and hiss at you whenever you leave!! We were given a list of supermarkets in the area however a list of opening times dates would of been extremely helpful We visited the Normandy landings, Cains, Paris and other surrounding areas which were fantastic and I would highly recommend. We re arranged our ferry and left a day early as I was unable to tolerate the barn any longer. This experience will not change my opinion of France or of the Normandy region as there are places that are simply wonderful however this was not one of them and I will look closer at trip advisor comments on my next booking You may think i am someone who is being picky or used to the higher end living but i can assure you this is not the case the barn was just simply filthy in every area other than the bedding this was clean (apart from the spider population) Very disapointed :o( Response: The barn is cleaned throughout every week and we have never had anyone complain about the standard of cleanliness. In fact most people say how clean it is so we are very surprised and disappointed by these comments. We live in the next house up the lane so I would expect you to come and see me if you had a problem and we would have done our best to address the problems.

“Relaxing, quiet and peaceful location.” Overall, this cottage offers a pleasant place to stay. We would have benefitted from the provision of more local information e.g. local villages are 'closed' on certain days and it would have been nice to know these details to avoid disappointment. I would say the location is best suited to families who want a quiet getaway as it is quite a distance from good kids' tourist attractions. Unfortunately, the wet weather during our stay prevented us from enjoying the surrounds fully but in drier conditions, I'm sure it would've been delightful. Response: Thank you for taking the time to review the property I should have pointed out that there is a tourist information centre in Broglie the little town nearest to us. But I am pleased you found the place peaceful shame about the weather but we do enjoy on average enjoy good weather.

“Fantastic Accomodation in a Beautiful location” The cottage is set in a massive garden shared with the owners other property, a more substantial house. And whilst both properties were occupied during our stay you would never have known it. The house and garden is set in the middle of tranquil countryside down a quiet lane. The local village is ten minute walk away although it's so small there's not much there! A car or motorbike is essential, the pretty town of Orbec is a ten minute drive away and the more substantial town of Bernay, with it's train link to Paris and beyond is about 20 minutes by road. The property consisted of a lounge and open plan kitchen to the ground floor, sky tv was provided. The kitchen had everything needed including a dishwasher. A large bathroom/wc was also situated on the ground floor with luxury shower and spa bath. Perfect after a long days walk! Upstairs three generously sized bedrooms and second wc were too be found, all bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Outside is a massive garden which is mainly lawned and has a small swimming pool, pond and allotment. It was a joy to sit out there in the evening watching the rabbits, ducks, goslings, bats and frogs do their stuff! The house is ideally situated if you want peace and quiet, the main attractions of Normandy were from one to two hours drive away by road. We spent a day in Paris, which was only 80 mins away by train from Bernay. The trains put ours in the UK to shame. A pre-booked return fare (see sncf website) was a bargain 18 euros. Overall we were very pleased with our stay, there's lots of room for kids to run around and there are no neighbours to annoy..... The only downside was the cost of everything, since when did France become so expensive?! Luckily there are plenty of supermarkets and shops in the towns mentioned. Guestbook for La Touque The Barn

Where to begin the house itself is superb, excellent facilities and finished off to a very high standand.
Kids enjoyed playing in the grounds and in the pool.
A trip to Eurodisney was well worth it.
Honfleur is beautiful and stunning harbour town and Deauville provided very good beach days. Trips to Liseaux and the Zoo were great value lots to see the kids loved it. All in all a great holiday.

Our 4 children enjoyed the pool and garden immensely.( they were still in the pool at 9am before we went out for the day.)
The location is idyllic if you’re looking for a rural retreat.
The gite is well equipped and the owners have made sure it’s a comfortable home from home.
We spent a very full week visiting the many attractions that are nearby.
