Home description
Dating from approximately 1850, this is an ideal family retreat set behind a pretty front garden with mature trees and shrubs overlooking the attractive village green and duck pond. Mallards and their offspring can be seen waddling around the footpaths and settling in villagers’ gardens - a lovely sight.
Within a short stroll there are two local inns serving excellent food, a post office and a general store serving most needs including your daily newspaper and freshly baked bread and buns.
The cottage is within yards of open countryside and ideally placed to visit the surrounding Cotswold villages of Broadway (just over a mile away), Chipping Camden, Stow on the Wold and Stratford upon Avon (with the Royal Shakespeare Company theatre) is approximately 10 miles away. Artists, ramblers and cyclists will find plenty to see.
The accommodation retains much of the charm and character of the original building which has been modernised to provide complete comfort and convenience. All rooms have been decorated in keeping with the character of the cottage and have been very well furnished and equipped.

The Central England / Cotswolds / Worcestershire region
The Cotswolds is characterised by attractive small towns and villages built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). This limestone is rich in fossils, in particular fossilised sea urchins. In the Middle Ages, the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous; hence the Speaker of the British House of Lords sits on the Woolsack showing where the Medieval wealth of the country came from. Some of this money was put into the building of churches so the area has a number of large, handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent and has attracted wealthy people who own second homes in the area or have chosen to retire to the Cotswolds.
Typical Cotswold towns are Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Norton, Cirencester, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold and Winchcombe. The village of Chipping Campden is notable for being the home of the Arts and Crafts movement, founded by William Morris at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. William Morris lived occasionally in Broadway Tower a folly now part of a country park. Chipping Campden is also known for the annual Cotswold Games, a celebration of sports and games dating back to the early 17th century.
Broadway / Willersey area
Broadway is a small Cotswold village in Worcestershire. Often referred to as the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds', Broadway village lies beneath Fish Hill on the western Cotswold escarpment. The 'broad way' is the wide grass-fringed main street, centred around The Green, which is lined with red chestnut trees and honey-coloured Cotswold limestone buildings, many dating from the 16th century.
Originally a busy stagecoach stop on the route from Worcester to London, Broadway became home to artists and writers including Elgar, John Singer Sargent, J.M. Barrie, Vaughan Williams, William Morris and Mary Anderson.
Today, Broadway is a centre for arts and antiques and serves as a natural base from which to explore the Cotswolds or see the horse-racing during the busy Cheltenham Gold Cup week. The village is well-served with hotels, including the famous Lygon Arms, bed and breakfast lodges, old pubs including the Swan Pub, shops, art galleries, antique shops, restaurants and tea rooms.
Local attractions include the 55 foot high Broadway Tower on its hilltop site in the Broadway Country Park, Chipping Campden, Snowshill village, Snowshill Manor (owned by the National Trust), horse riding and, for the many ramblers, the Cotswold Way.
