The South East England region

With fast rail links to Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, Europe is easily reached on Eurostar. The port of Dover is only 30 minutes drive away where you can hop on a ferry to France, and in March 2010 a new ferry service between Ramsgate and Boulogne is scheduled to start, making lunch in France a real possibility. Don't forget your passport!

Historic Canterbury is only a 30 minute drive away, with it's spectacular cathedral, city walls, restaurants, shops and parks. You can take a boat trip on the river to see the sights from a different perspective.

Step back in time at one of our nearby castles - Dover, Deal, Walmer, Leeds and Rochester Castles are all easily reached by car in under an hour.

Kent is the Garden of England and our extensive coastline boasts an array of blue flag award winning beaches and thrilling watersports. Explore our beautiful countryside, discover country lanes, orchards, vineyards and oast houses. England's oldest county is up to the minute though, with leading edge galleries, theatre and entertaining night life giving you so many things to do. Kent boasts outstanding golf clubs, including the famous St Georges at Sandwich.

A stroll around Broadstairs is a journey of discovery with a lovely surprise around every corner. Our most famous resident was Charles Dickens who spent much time here, writing many of his classic novels here. Visit the Dickens Museum and watch out for costumed characters during our annual Dickens Week (June)!

Walk around the Thanet coastline to explore our beautiful beaches and bays, each with its own character. Broadstairs' main beach is the unspoilt Viking Bay, no more than a minutes walk away from Sunshine Villa, where you can still see much of Broadstairs' Victorian heritage. Viking bay has a small harbour with cafes and giftshops, with plenty of rockpools for crabbing and exploring. An old fashioned beach funfair complete with helter skelter and swingboats, and a traditional punch and judy show twice a day in high season means that there's plenty to keep everyone entertained. The Pavilion offers beachside drinks and lunches and you don't have to walk far to find fish and chips to eat on the beach!

Joss Bay is more rural and offers great surfing opportunities (check out Joss Bay Surf School), whilst Botany Bay is quieter and more secluded and can feel a million miles from anywhere - absolute bliss when you want to laze around and recharge your batteries. Drive south to Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve for birdwatching and wild ponies.

Although Broadstairs has kept much of its old fashioned charm and tranquility, we have a vibrant calendar of events ranging from the annual Dickens Festival (June), Water Gala (June) and Folk Week (Aug) to a great free summer entertainment programme with a weekly firework display during the school summer holidays. Broadstairs also hosts its own annual Food Festival in October, featuring local producers and restaurants, with free tastings and cookery demonstrations by top chefs. For full details go to

There are a mouth-watering number of restaurants, bistros, cafes and pubs to choose from - you could eat your way around the world.

Visit Ramsgate's Royal Harbour for a taste of the Mediterranean (on a sunny day!), to take out a boat for seal watching or sea fishing, or just to watch the boats from its many cafes and bars. Ramsgate and Margate host

their own annual festivals and events - go to for more inspiration.

"Excellent location, excellent size property"

Our party ranged 3 generations. The house was a brilliant size and laid out perfectly with second floor consisting of one double room and one twin room with bathroom and separate toilet and the third floor with a double and twin room and shower room with toilet. The lounge was great for us as was the playroom. We didn't have any trouble parking the second car across the road but if you can't find space there is a car park at the end of the road, however a new daily ticket needs to be bought and displayed at 7am! The beach was a 2minute walk away which was fantastic. Our only downside which has nothing to do with the property but more Broadstairs in general, was that we found it hard to entertain the 3, 4 and 7 year old children when we had bad weather. We went to Castle Digby's which had a soft play centre inside but that was 2 miles up the coast. If we wanted to drive I am sure there are lots of other places to amuse the children, like the cinema but we wanted to stay local. We would definitely return to this property and found the communication of the landlady very professional.

"Great house, Great location"

We all enjoyed our second stay here. 6 adults can all chill out without feeling 'on top of each other'. The house is really spacious and has everything you need. For a large house on 3 floors it also cosy and warm …which you need in the winter months! Janette is so helpful at arranging anything extra you may need. We are staying again in March !

Great glad that you are coming to stay again and lets hope the sun is shining for you. Thanks for your review.

"Good base to enjoy Broadstairs"

Spacious accommodation/worked well for our 2 families with the number of rooms/bathrooms and layout. No garden but courtyard is OK for eating out/drying washing etc. Quite an eclectic/beach feel to the house. Bed linen (per other reviews) was lovely & crisp. Good location just a few mins walk to the beach. We hired a beach hut too, which was really useful to save bringing everything back each day. Parking not great; room for 1 car on the front & the street is busy - but once you manage to get a slot, no restrictions. Lots of people walking by in the evening/late on, which can be noisy for the front bedrooms. Overall a good place to stay, not overly fussy or pristine; had a 'lived in' feel, which actually made us feel relaxed from the start. Quite kiddi friendly (the toys are a good addition if you have tots/our children were older).
