The Isle of Thanet region
Broadstairs is a pretty town, still retaining its unspoilt charm, with narrow streets, flint cottages, and interesting shops, all beautifully set off by a wide sandy bay and harbour, and cliff-top gardens. There are also plenty of good places to eat.
Nearby Ramsgate Harbour is a source of never ending interest, and there are lots of other sandy bays and coves in the nearby area.
A little further afield there are quite different coastal areas, with chalk and flint predominating - don't miss magical Sandwich Bay and Dungeness, for example. Whitstable and Faversham, and Dover Deal and Walmer, with their wonderful castles, are also well worth a visit.
Inland, Kent has beautiful countryside, and lots of pretty villages.
Canterbury is about half an hour's drive away, and if you fancy a day across the Channel, there are ferries from Dover to France and Belgium.
