The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Pembrokeshire region
A perfect holiday cottage destination, Pembrokeshire boasts superb beaches, stunning scenery, and a plethora of activities including family attractions like Oakwood Leisure Park and Folly Farm. Best of Wales have numerous holiday cottages in Pembrokeshire. Why not try a spot of dolphin or whale watching out of St Davids, or surfing at many of the areas fabulous surf beaches. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park which includes over 621 miles (1000 km) of footpaths and bridleways, walking is an ideal way of exploring the beauty of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Trail is a spectacular 186 miles (299 km) long National Trail covering some of the most varied coastal scenery in Britain, stretching from St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south. Trails in the park offer over 200 circular walks, ranging from a one hour stroll to an invigorating 9 miles (15km) cross-country hikes.
Pembrokeshire has some of the very best surf beaches in Wales, with breaks for every level of surfer. With little interruption of South Westerly swells beaches like Newgale and Freshwater West pick up any swell going. In bigger storm swells travelling a little further to beaches like Abermawr or Freshwater East will help you find more sheltered breaks, often with great offshore conditions when other sites are blown out. Despite the number of excellent spots, there will usually be somewhere to surf that the crowds haven't reached, and even the most popular tourist beaches like Whitesands and Newgale only become busy during the summer months. There's a great atmosphere in Pembrokeshire, with a relaxed surf culture. If the swell doesn't arrive then there are lots of other activities to keep you outdoors!
The Broadhaven area
Broad Haven is a favourite with bathers and watersports enthusiasts, with pubs, a shop, restaurant and cafe all in the immediate area. Broad Havens westerly facing sandy beach offers excellent conditions for kite-surfing, kite-buggying, windsurfing and surfing. There is a car park at the southern end of the beach opposite Haven Sports and a larger car park a small distance from the beach at the North End of the bay. It provides an ideal base if you are looking for a traditional seaside holiday but equally it is conveniently located for excursions to St. Davids, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and the rest of Pembrokeshire. Ideal for walkers and cyclists the Pembrokeshire Coastal path and the Celtic cycle route (National cycle route 4) runs through the village.
Just around the corner from Broad Haven (and within an easy walking distance) is Little Haven. It is undoubtedly one of the most delightful seaside villages in the whole of Wales. The settlement dates back to the iron age and was once a base for sea trading and smuggling. Nowadays the safe, sandy beach is well used by inshore fishermen, dinghy sailors, windsurfers and families carrying buckets and spades. The village is a popular meeting place for visitors and local people with three pubs and a bistro. The annual regatta and raft races are renowned in the Pembrokeshire summer calendar and visitors are especially welcome to join in. A visit to Little Haven would not be complete without a walk along 'The Point' to the headland and the chance to watch the sun set over the restless Atlantic Ocean.
Nearby St Davids and Solva are also worth a visit. St Davids in Pembrokeshire is Britain's smallest city. It is a beautiful and unique city surrounded by some of the finest coastline in Europe. The city of St Davids lies on the River Alum and is located on the St David's peninsula. Solva is known as the jewel of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and is situated on the beautiful West Wales coast. An ideal location for walking, sailing, fishing or simply relaxing amongst the shops, galleries and restaurants set in beautiful scenery. It lies on a deep ravine at the mouth of the River Solva and consists of a long street ending at the small harbour. You will find several local pubs providing great food and atmosphere.
