The Limerick / Tipperary / County Limerick region

County Limerick is a region of great charm and natural beauty. Towns and villages abound that offer a warm welcome to visitors. Limerick City is stepped in history, why not visit St. John’s Castle or the internationally renowned Hunt Museum? West Limerick has many attractions including equestrian centres in Abbeyfeale and Adare, horse racing at the Limerick Racecourse, karting in Abbeyfeale and Kilcornan. Foynes Flying Boat Museum commemorates the early days of transatlantic air travel and the discovery of Irish Coffee. Foynes also has the Local Sailing Club and Shannon Estuary Cruises.

Adare is known as Ireland’s most picturesque village with its thatched cottages, abbeys and boutiques and is not to be missed. Call to the Irish Palatine Centre in Rathkeale which details the experiences of hundreds of families from the German Palantine who settled in Ireland in 1709. Mountain trails, garden trails, angling and golf are also popular. Tiger Woods has played in Adare Manor golf club on many occasions.

Broadford area

Broadford- The name comes from the Irish ‘Beal an Atha’ meaning the mouth of the River Ford. The village is located in West Limerick 4km from the County Cork border near the foothills of the Mullaghareirk Mountains.

Glenview Lodge is 2km from the village where you will find a choice of shop, pubs, takaway restaurant, church, post office and sign posted walking trails and the Arboretum for native trees and shrubs..

The Mullaghareirk Mountain Walking Trails which consist of 8 sign-posted walks, most of which are loop walks(walks which start and finish at the same point) will introduce the visitor to the many natural springs, bird life, wild life, bogs and historical sites. The length of the walks range from 4km to 24km over a variety of terrain from open farmland and forest paths to quiet country roads.

Local attractions include Newcastle West County Limerick’s largest town, noted for its shopping and has the 15th century castle situated in the town centre along with the 100 acre castle demesne. Adare, Ireland’s most picturesque village is within easy reach. Call to Irish Dresden fine porcelain in Dromcollogher where its products are made and can be brought in the showroom. Restaurants, outdoor activities, including golf, fishing and equestrian activities are also to be enjoyed...

Guestbook

"Our stay at Glenview Lodge was everything and more than we expected. A warm welcome from our hosts began a weeks stay in a cottage as pleasant as any place we have stayed. Private, clean, fully equipped, beautiful surrounds, and much more. There were glorious walks in the surrounding hillsides, strolls into the township for a drink at the local pub, picnic races, wonderful day trips by car, and of course the option to just stay at Glenview and soak in the restful atmosphere. For anyone wanting a place slightly off the tourist track yet central to the heart of Ireland this is it.We hope to come again.
Michael and Susan Hanley Australia”
