The West Country / Devon region
Brixham is located on the southern side of Torbay. It is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds and enjoys year round mild weather and high levels of sunshine. The immediate countryside on either side of Brixham is outstandingly beautiful and is managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust. The demanding eight mile walk along a section of the South West Coastal path passes spectacular yet isolated and unspoilt beaches, cliffs and rocky coves on its way to Kingswear and the mouth of the River Dart.
To the south of Brixham lies the countryside of the South Hams. Countless hamlets and villages lying within a maze of country lanes and beautiful esturies. Slapton is an important wildlife and bird watching area. There are also argueably some of the best beaches in the country at Blackpool Sands, East Portlemouth and Bigbury/Burgh Island. The National Trust manages much of the countryside and important historical buildings in the South Hams. Coleton Fishacre house and gardens, a few miles from Brixham, are particularly worthly of a visit.
The interior of South Devon is dominated by Dartmoor, an unmistakable landscape of granite tors on barron hilltops, stone circles, abandoned mine workings and quiet wooded valleys. This National Park offers fantastic opportunities for walkers throughout the year.
Brixham area
Brixham is a picturesque town set in an outstanding coastline. It has a thriving fishing port which is complemented by the marina of yachts and cruisers. It has an historic old harbour which, not surprisingly, is overlooked by a number of good fish restaurants. During the summer period pasenger boats can be taken to Torquay, Dartmouth, the River Dart and for fishing trips. The town also has a heritage fleet of sailling trawlers. "The Vigilance" is available for sailling trips. The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway and the Buckfastleigh to Totnes Steam Railway must be amongst the most outstanding steam railways journeys in the country.
Brixham has a large sea water swimming pool and two good swimming beaches. The area is also extremely popular with scuba divers and snorkellers. The South West Coastal footpath which passes through the town offers great coastal walks in either direction. The Berry Head Country Park, a site of special scientific interest, occupies an elevated limestone plateau just outside of the town.
How to get there
Bear left at the first set of traffic lights in Brixham towards the town centre and harbour. At the crossroads and traffic lights (next to the town hall) turn left and keep in the left hand lane, bearing left towards the harbour. At the next junction turn right and follow the road winding around the harbour. At the mini roundabout turn left into Berry Head Road. Rockberry is at number 101, on the right hand side about half a mile down the road. Drive up the slope and immediately right into the parking area.

Guestbook
The apartment was beautifully laid out and very well equipped and the views across Torbay were stunning particularly at sunset." Laura O'Brien
Nothing could beat the excitement of seeing dolphins swimmimg just out in the Bay (binoculars recommended for any visit).
We were surprised at how much there was to do in and around Brixham and would recommend your visitors to take a mackeral fishing trip out from the harbour.
