Home description
Gull’s Nest is a Brixham cottage of the highest standard, complete with a fascinating history combined with a luxury modern interior and a warm welcome. The property was home the Captain Schjonnerman in the late 19th Century, who sailed the world trading raw materials before setting up a navigation school in Hill House, part of which is now Gull’s Nest.
The cottage sits on the side of the hill, overlooking Brixham’s harbour, fishing port and marina with far reaching views across Torbay and out to sea. A designated parking space is provided for your convenience down on the harbour. The town centre of Brixham and the harbour are 1 minute away down the hill, where the attractions and harbour front restaurants offer tempting fish dishes.
Refurbished to a very high standard, achieving a five ‘Highly Commended’ award in the 2004/5 South West Tourism Awards. Upon arrival you will find fresh flowers in the property along with freshly baked scones or muffins, as well as coffee tea, milk, bread and butter. The owners also ensure that details such as soap, shampoo, dishwasher tablets, washing powder, and washing up liquid is provided, ensuring you just need to arrive with your clothes for a great holiday. Returning guests are also presented with a complementary meal from the owners – choose from fish, vegetarian and meat dishes from an award winning cook.

The West Country / Devon region
Devon is famed for its beautiful countryside and lovely climate.
Brixham area
With colourful houses lining the harbour, both modern and historic boats moored in the marina, and hundreds of years of maritime history, Brixham has much to offer its many visitors.
The charm and character of the local cottages, perched over the Golden Hind replica and local seafood restaurants and shops below, combined with the 500 berth marina and Breakwater, make Brixham a boat lovers paradise. You can learn about the town’s maritime history in the Heritage Museum or simply watch the numerous boats coming and going. Brixham has one of the largest working fishing ports in the country, adding to the nautical activity.
There is much more to see and do in Brixham, including the seawater swimming pool at Shoalstone, woodland walks at Churston, and the Napoleonic Fort and Country Park at Berry Head. This nature reserve forms part of the South West Coast Path with breathtaking views along the coastline.
