Churston Old School House
House | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 10
Few buildings can claim such a rich and diverse historical contribution to their parish community as Churston Old School House. It is a well-known and much admired house locally, which is now for the first time, available as a wonderfully relaxing place for groups of friends and families to congregate for lazy holidays, action packed short breaks and special occasions.
Churston Old School House is in fact two beautiful cottages that are side by side and they seamlessly merge into one large and very interesting dwelling, offering accommodation for ten guests across five bedrooms.
The building itself is Grade II listed and constructed of local stone in a Tudor style, it has been lovingly restored and now combines original features and much character, with practical modern conveniences. The former main classroom is now a fantastic and vast dining or games room that is more akin to a banquet hall with vaulted celing, mezzanine and a wood burner for cosy nights in.
The surrounding area is perfect and it is a country pub and dog walkers paradise. Not only do you have a highly regarded Inn on the door step, but the South West Coast Path and several renowned beaches are a pleasant stroll across the golf course. There are two enclosed private pet friendly garden areas which are also perfect for hide and seek.
A short walk from the house is the excellent Churston Farm Shop plus a garden store and popular café. The ferry to Dartmouth is a five minute drive. Lupton Manor House is an absolute gem and is within walking distance, a delightful setting for a cream tea, a peaceful walk around the grounds or perhaps a wedding!
This is a superb destination for lovers of character and history. From the solid elm doors and working bell tower, to the original school coat hooks in the entrance hall, it has personality and charm by the bucket load and will leave a lasting impression on all guests lucky enough to stay.
For special occasions and by prior arrangement, the main dining room can be set to seat 16.

The West Country region
The warm climate and award-winning beaches enjoyed by South Devon have kept it a fashionable holiday resort for many generations. Torquay, Paignton and Brixham make up Torbay, one of the most popular areas for holidays in South Devon, and the area also includes the coastal towns of Dawlish, Teignmouth and Starcross. South Devon holiday cottages position their guests in some of the country's prettiest locations for a break with a continental feel. South Devon hosts dozens of festivals and regattas throughout the whole year. One of the world's oldest shipwrecks was found off South Devon's coast. Pete Goss built his Team Phillips catamaran in Totnes
A cosy coastal town with beautiful views and rambling countryside, Brixham can be found at the south end of the English Riviera. A busy fishing port with a fascinating history, including the inspiration for world famous hymns and being the landing place of William Prince of Orange, this picturesque corner of Devon is a delight to explore. From the bustling harbour filled with trawlers and yachts, to the tranquil nature reserve at Berry Head, there is plenty to enjoy during your stay.
Restaurants, pubs, bistros and cafes line the harbour along with colourful cottages, whilst families can enjoy the many attractions in the region. The coastline is interspersed with coves such as Churston, Fishcombe and St. Mary's Bay if you are looking for a quieter beach, while Breakwater beach has parking, a lifeguard in the summer and the Breakwater Bistro serving meals and takeaway food.
