Seabird Cottage is a charming, turn of the century (1900's) Fisherman's Cottage situated in the delightful fishing port of Brixham, our personal 'bolthole' escape. We love spending any free time here relaxing and 'getting away from it all' and wish to share this experience. The walks along the coast both towards Berry Head and towards Broadsands along the South Devon Coastal Path (Blackbeard's Trail) are not to be missed.
Our Cottage is the perfect place to base your holiday to enjoy the delights of South Devon, from the seaside walks, sailing and fishing to the boat trips, the trips on a steam train (Paignton/Dartmouth) or just relaxing in the harbour town's pubs, restaurants or tea/coffee shops or enjoying traditional fish and chips. Explore the winding streets and numerous 'steps' linking the streets and areas of the old fishing village.
The busy harbour is the home of the Brixham Sailing Trawler fleet, some preserved in the Heritage Fleet, and is still a bustling fishing port. Brixham was the creator of the trawler style of fishing and the sailing fleet numbered some 300 boats mainly built in Brixham itself. Trips are available on three of these lovingly preserved boats.
Seabird Cottage has been recently modernised retaining many traditional features including exposed beams believed to be reclaimed ships timbers and masts.
Enter from the street through a 'stable' door (also known locally as a Nosey door!!!!) into a homely Sitting Room, with wood
burner, through to a bright and airy fully fitted kitchen.
The fridge has a freezer compartment adequate for a weekend stay. Shops and supermarkets are minutes away
The bathroom, consisting of toilet, wash hand basin and large shower, is also situated on this level
Access to the furnished outside terrace, through the rear 'stable door', to enjoy a glass of wine or an al fresco meal, is also from the ground level.
There are two good sized bedrooms accessed by the winding 'traditional Brixham' staircase, a double bed to the front and twins in the rear bedroom overlooking the terrace garden.
Seabird Cottage benefits from full gas central throughout.
Seabird Cottage is ideally situated in one of the many quaint narrow streets and is just minutes from Brixham town centre, easy walking distance to many pubs, restaurants, shops and the harbour.
Parking (free) is available in nearby streets although a short walk, and sometimes a steep climb back up Brixham's famous Steps (with fantastic views over the harbour) may be necessary. A discounted weekly parking pass can be purchased from the Torbay Information Centre in the town (Hob Nobs on the Quay) or on line (see below) prior to your arrival.
The 26" TV has Freeview+ so you will not miss any of your favourite programmes
All bedding and towels are included in the quoted price and a change of linen/towels is provided for stays of over a week or more
Price quoted is to rent the cottage with a party of up to 4 persons.
NB Bank Holidays are charged at the appropriate weekend rate
NB This is a self catering property and whilst you are welcome to cook your own meals we cannot accept the use of deep fat fryers or slow cookers. Cooking of meals must be attended at all times
"There is no Washing Machine provided, (but who wants to wash clothes whilst on holiday???!!!)'
There are laundrettes in the town for those emergencies!
Central Heating will be provided from October to March at a level according to ambient temperatures.
Fuel for the wood burner is to be purchased by the guest.
As household waste disposable is a problem in Brixham, especially for short breaks, please dispose of your waste on a daily basis or take with you on departure. £25 of your key/breakages deposit may be deducted if waste is left at the property.
PLEASE REQUEST A QUOTE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC HOLIDAY DATES
As we are dog owners ourselves, we understand you wanting to bring your pets on holiday with you, especially as Brixham has so many wonderfully walks to explore
We will accept 1 full sized dog (or 2 smaller breeds) by prior arrangement. We ask that you do not allow them on furniture, upstairs or un-supervised in the garden.
Dogs must not be left unsupervised in the cottage.
We do not charge extra for dogs, so in return we ask you to ensure that we don't have any extra cleaning to do after your stay!

The West Country region
South Devon enjoys a warm climate and some award winning beaches that have traditionally made the area one of Britains' most popular holiday destinations. The most popular holiday area in South Devon is the picturesque Torbay consisting of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and also the coastal towns of Dawlish, Teignmouth and Starcross
The very pretty locations, quaint villages and traditional towns make South Devon ideal for self catering holiday cottage breaks.
There are dozens of festivals and regattas in South Devon throughout the year
Found off the South Devon coast is one of the world's oldest shipwrecks
"A cosy coastal town with beautiful views and rambling countryside, Brixham can be found at the south end of the English Riviera. A busy fishing port with a fascinating history, including the inspiration for world famous hymns and being the landing place of William Prince of Orange, this picturesque corner of Devon is a delight to explore. From the bustling harbour filled with trawlers and yachts, to the tranquil nature reserve at Berry Head, there is plenty to enjoy during your stay.
Restaurants, pubs, bistros and cafes line the harbour along with colourful cottages, whilst families can enjoy the many attractions in the region. The coastline is interspersed with coves such as Churston, Fishcombe and St. Mary's Bay if you are looking for a quieter beach, while Breakwater beach has parking, a lifeguard in the summer and the Breakwater Bistro serving meals and takeaway food"

De plek van het huis is prachtig. Met 1 trap naar beneden ben je in het centrum. Je kunt de auto niet bij het huis parkeren. Het terras was niet te betreden, het was allemaal modder, de terrasstoelen … More

"Seabird Cottage a fishermans cottage, comfortable with lots of nice touches"
A lovely 2 bedroomed cottage with lots of quirky touches and attention to detail. Very clean with nice bedding and towels. The enclosed terrace area up the steps (about 10) was ok but the steps hadn… More
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay in our cottage and thank you for your honest review.
The points you raise are mentioned in our advertising so guests can be aware of the issues, prior to booking. Some of the points are incumbent of Brixham and mainly part of the charm. We do make it aware in our pre-arrival handout about the parking issues but will explain in the advert more clearly that the streets are very steep.
A point we have made previously is that families - old and young - have lived, and been raised, in these cottages for decades, even centuries
We do apologise about the outside steps we do suffer from 'debris' from neighbouring trees and Seagulls' nesting, we will ensure our housekeeper pays particular attention to this detail in future.
Thank you again for highlighting these points

"Very handy for the centre of Brixham"
A super cottage, very clean with everything you need for a stay in Brixham. Small critique stairs slightly dangerous steep with a twist and no hand rail, not good for small children. Would stay the… More
Thank you for your kind review. The Traditional stairs are a feature of this type of property and are pointed out in the advertising pictures and Information booklet. They do need careful use but families have been brought up in these cottages for years. We looked at handrails but they caused more restriction than the help they achieved. Will still look at other solutions to managing this issue without detracting from the character of the cottage.
