Home description
Enjoy a relaxing family holiday in a rural setting. In the large enclosed grounds you can sit and enjoy the local aperitif, Pineau de Charente, under the shady pergola. This is the ideal spot for alfresco dining. For the children there are swings, a 12ft splash pool and plenty of room to run around and play. This is a great base for walking and cycling across the country trails and through the forests. Here you might spot some of the local wildlife including deer, wild boar, red squirrel, and a variety of birds, including the hoopoo, shrike and buzzard. A short drive takes you to Brioux with shops and a little further to Melle with a variety of excellent restaurants, large supermarkets and a silver mine. This makes for a relaxing holiday with ample sightseeing opportunities.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
This area is reported to have the 2nd highest level of sunshine in France. An hours drive takes you to La Rochelle with its beaches, marina, many restaurants and excellent shops. Nearby are the Islands of Ile de Re and ile d'Oleron. The historic city of Poitiers is about 45 mins away, take the well signposted tourist walks through the city. The theme park of Futuroscope is worth a visit. The canals of Marais Poitevin, known as 'Green Venice' are just 30 mins away. Boating, eating, and relaxing while watching the bird life. Monkey Valley, just 50mins away, is a must for childrenwhere they can see the 30 different species, Cognac, going south is about an hour away. This has the river Charente going through and many distilleries to visit and sample. Walk through the cobbled, traffic free streets.

Brioux sur Boutonne / Villefollet area
Villefollet is a small village 5km from Brioux sur Boutonne, a picturesque riverside market town. This town has many shops, a supermarket, banks and restaurants.
Melle, approx. 10Km north, has several supermarkets. The town itself is worth a visit, with its silver mine and many restaurants. There is also a large indoor market. Going south to St Jean d'Angely, about 30mins away, which has an Abbey, markets, shops and numerous restaurants. The forest of Chize is close by and the home to many deer and wild boar.
How to get there
By road: From Channel ports via Rouen, Tours, and Poitiers. Approx. time 7 hours. From St Malo via Rennes & Nantes. Approx. time is 4 hours. By Train: London St Pancras and Ebsfleet International to Poitiers via Lille or Paris on Eurostar and TGV services. By Air: London Stansted to La Rochelle and Poitiers with Ryanair. Birmingham to Poitiers with Ryan air Birmingham to La Rochelle with Flybe Dublin to La Rochelle with Ryanair Southampton to La Rochelle with Flybe.

Further details indoors: The house has been renovated to a high standard with a large kitchen leading out to a sheltered area for al fresco dining. The large lounge features a wood burning stove for extra cosiness, this leads to a large dining room. Downstairs there is a double bedroom, shower room and separate toilet. Upstairs there are 2 twin rooms and a second double bedroom, and a new bathroom. The new kitchen is well equipped with fridge, washing machine and dishwasher. The large garden, enclosed on all sides, makes it a perfect play area for children. For out of season holidays the house has central heating and a woodburning stove. This makes for a relaxing holiday with ample sightseeing opportunities. A DVD player is available on request at a charge of 25 euros/week. A DVD library is also available free of charge.
Further details outdoors: There is an outdoor eating area with table and seating for 8. This is near the kitchen. A BBQ is provided for al fresco dining. There is a 12ft splash pool, a swing set, swingball and other outside games. Sun loungers and parasols are provided.

A 25% deposit at time of booking secures dates, with the remainder being paid 8 weeks in advance. Arrival at the property is 4.00pm and departure time is 10.00am. Owners representative nearby to help with information or assistance. A welcome pack can be arranged for late arrivals. .
