About the home

Enjoy a combination of relaxation, and outdoor fun and culture in this spacious family holiday home set in rural surroundings. In the large enclosed grounds you can sit and enjoy the local aperitif, Pineau de Charente, under the shady pergola; while the children splash about in the 12 ft pool or play on the swings.This is the ideal spot for alfresco dining, whilst providing plenty of room for the children to run around and play.
This is a great base for exploring the local area; from adventure parks and zoo's to historic cities and fine dining. You might even spot some of the local wildlife including deer, wild boar, red squirrel, and a variety of birds, including the hoopoo, shrike and buzzard.
Why not share the experience and bring your friends too. There's plenty of space for two families to holiday together, without getting under each other's feet! You could even bring the grandparents. With a downstairs bedroom and bathroom facilities, this property is also suitable for those with reduced mobility.

The house has been renovated to a high standard, and still retains some original features such as old beams and a large fireplace.

There is a modern, spacious well-equiped kitchen with all new appliances.

The large lounge features a wood burning stove for extra cosiness and plenty of seating for all. This leads directly to a dining area with a large table and 8 chairs .

Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom, shower room with 2 basins and a separate toilet.

Upstairs there are 2 twin rooms, a second double bedroom, and a new bathroom with a bath.

A DVD library is available free of charge, as well as a selection of paperbacks and games.

There is a shaded outdoor eating area with table and seating for 8, just outside the kitchen.

The large garden which surrounds the house on 3 sides (and a field on the 4th) is enclosed on all sides, making it a perfect play area for children.

A BBQ is provided to make the most of the warm summer evenings.

There is a 12ft splash pool, a swing set, swingball and other outside games.

Sun loungers and parasols are provided.

Secure parking is available in front of the house.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region

This area of France is reported to have the 2nd highest level of sunshine in the country.
The region has a rural farming feel to it, with agriculture being the main occupation of the locals. This gives the area it's lovely open feel with vast fields of wheat, oil-seed rape and sunflowers. Hugh skies are the product of a softly undulating landscape, giving rise to wonderful sunsets and stunning night-time displays of stars.

An hours drive takes you to La Rochelle with its lovely old port and marina, many great restaurants and narrow shop-lined streets. Nearby are the Islands of Ile de Re and ile d'Oleron, as well as some great beaches.
The historic city of Poitiers is about 45 mins away, with a self-guided tourist walks through the city, passing some wonderful Romanesque architecture. The theme park of Futuroscope is also worth a visit.
The canals of Marais Poitevin, known as 'Green Venice' are just 30 mins away. Here you can hire a boat and drift along the river at you own pace, watching the wildlife.
La Vallee des singes (monkey Valley), just 50 mins away, is a must for children and adults alike. Here, you can see the 30 different species of monkey running free in a natural setting.
Cognac, going south is about an hour away. The beautiful river Charente runs through the city, and here you can visit one of the many Cognac distilleries and even have a tasting too.

The Brioux sur Boutonne / Villefollet area

Villefollet is a small village just 5km from the riverside market town of Brioux sur Boutonne. Here you will find a good range of amenities including a supermarket, banks, a bar and restaurants.

Melle, approx. 10Km north, has several larger supermarkets, a traditional French market (weekly) and a good range of restaurants. There are 3 beautiful Romanesque churches as well as the historic silver mines, where you can take a guided tour of the ancient mining caves. There is also an Arboretum and 6km botanical walk, containing hundreds of species of trees from around the world.
Going south to St Jean d'Angely, about 30mins away, there is a beautiful Abbey, as wells as markets, shops and numerous restaurants.
The forest of Chize is close by and the home to many deer, wild boar and wolves. Here you will find a lovely zoo containing a vast range of European animals in large open natural enclosures.
