Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Dear previous guest,
We are writing to confirm that we have sold Stonewall Cottage and that it will no longer be available for holidays through us. When we purchased Stonewall Cottage, over ten years ago, we hoped that others would get to enjoy it as much as we did. Sadly in recent years, we have been enjoying it less and less as our son grows up and home commitments crowd into the diary.
The new owners are yet to confirm their plans for the cottage but have a young family themselves.
We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing the cottage with you and hope you will continue to visit the lovely county of Norfolk.
Best wishes, Rebecca
Stonewall Cottage is in the centre of this quiet hamlet. An enclosed walled garden is wrapped all around providing privacy and two terraces for catching the sun during the day. A bottle of wine will be chilled in the fridge for your arrival or if your prefer red, waiting on the table with glasses. Accessed from the road through courtyard gates on the one side and by a pedestrian gate on the other it is a lovely surprise to find such calm after a busy day out in Norfolk. Immediately outside the kitchen door is a stocked herb garden, please help yourself .
Entering through the kitchen, you then find a dining room a door straight out onto the terrace. The sitting room is a delightful room, calm colours and very light with windows on three sides. Logs are provided at no charge to enjoy a roaring fire. The main bedroom is romantic with an iron bedstead and French painted armoir. Quality white linens and towels are provided for adults and children. The bathroom has a claw roll top bath that lies under the window looking out onto the garden. Pecksniff's toiletries will be alongside the bath for a special start to your holiday.
The cottage was set up to provide a relaxing base from which to explore the beautiful Norfolk area. With such a lovely main bedroom couples can feel really spoiled for space.
If you have children too the bunk beds are very welcoming and all children adore them and the fun blinds. We provide cot and high chairs and various other baby items and are happy to provide for twins too.

About this location
The East Anglia region
According to the Sunday Times, North Norfolk is a Heritage Coast and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A chain of nature reserves, many of them in the hands of the National Trust, stretches all the way from Holme to Blakeney. It includes a Ramsar Site (wetlands of international importance) and-extending to the sea as well as the land- a specail Protection Area and a candidate Special Area of Conservation designated under European law.
Lovely at all times of year there is always something to do in Norfolk. A few of our favourites are:
Crabbing at Blakeney
Birdwatching at Cley Marshes
Breakfast in Holt
Steam train to Sheringham
Making sand castles at Wells
Walking on the coastal path
Throwing stones into the raging sea
Watching a seal bobbing along the shoreline at Cley
Walking through Sheringham Park in May and admiring the rhodedendroms
Eating mussells, lobsters, crabs and generally most local produce from various establishments..
Holt Christmas lights this week 24th November
Fakenham Races are on next on Saturday 12th December
Cromer carnival 2011 runs from the 13th to 19th August.
Cromer childrens week runs from the 1st to 5th and again 8th to 12th August.
Brinton is a very peaceful village and yet you can reach all our favourite things within 15 to 30 minutes drive. Or just cycle out of the gate. It is a 3 mile drive to reach the local georgian market town of Holt. An attractive town it is full of interesting independent shops for browsing. Holt ChrsitmasLights get switched on this year on the 23rd November by Help for Heroes Ed Parker.Driving to the coast takes from fifteen minutes to Blakeney for crabbing off the quay or twenty minutes to Wells and the lovely open sand beaches. Our favourite is the pebble beach at Cley. Reached easily from the cottage, in winter the waves are really loud as the sea hurls the pebbles back onto the beach and slowly absorbs the coastline here. In summer, many families can be found having a lunch on the beach having called into Cley centre on route for smoked fish products and also the super Picnic Fayre deli for lavender bread and other such yummy local produce.

"Good and bad"
A character cottage within a pretty, secure garden, set in a quiet hamlet surrounded by fields. A generous welcome basket full of local goodies was there on our arrival. The kitchen was well equipped, sitting room had comfy sofas, modern TV and a good selection of books and DVDs.
BUT the toilet was leaking when we arrived, the radiators were on full blast with no way of turning them down or off so had to have the windows open, there was not enough hot water to fill the bath and no curtain to have a shower, the curtains in the master bedroom wouldn't open and close properly, there were areas of damp and peeling paint, and the second bedroom was tiny, just enough room for the bunk beds but nowhere to put your 'stuff' so certainly small kids only.
Overall it could be lovely but the cottage was in need of some serious repairs and maintenance when we stayed. However it is in a beautiful area with many interesting places to visit nearby.
These guests stayed in June 2012 and have just submitted this review over a year later. Unfortunately we had to withhold a portion of their security deposit as they forced the outside door key into and locked the inner stable kitchen door which cost £60 to call out an emergency lock smith. This had never been done in the eight years we had been letting the cottage. The guests following on had to access the house through the garden door until the Monday.
These guests then said that the husband was a plumber and had had to fix lots of problems so they should be billing us. None of the previous guests had complained of any faults as shown by our reviews. We then had to employ our usual plumber to check all the apparent alterations to check that the cottage was safe for guests, again as an emergency call out. We did not pass on this charge.
The bathroom clearly states it had a hand shower only and is a traditional roll top bath.
The boiler, pre tampering, is specifically set up so that the flow rate is low enough to enable the oil combi boiler, not gas, fill up the romantic bath otherwise why have one.
The second bedroom is indeed small but has full size three foot bunk beds in and no-one has expected to have children running around in it that is why the garden is a delight. Many parents choose to put the cot bed in here as well as an older child and feel happy with the space available.
Thank you for reading our response.

Great place and lovely week away with great cottage with all you want. Open fire and wood provided was unexpected but a good touch, All mod cons including wiffi whihc helped with occasional contact with work. we have two small dogs which worked well with an enclosed garden.

"Perfect romantic getaway"
It's a beautiful little cottage, so well presented. We had a fantastic few days exploring the north Norfolk coast. It was great to come back after a long day, and cosy-up in front of the fireplace with a bottle of wine. Lovely!

"Superb cottage with great enclosed garden"
Super cottage that was clean and well equiped - plenty of crockery and pans etc in the kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, baby equipment etc. The garden is enclosed so was safe for our dog and young children. There was a plentiful supply of logs so we could enjoy a real fire when we got back from our day's adventures. You do need a car but there is plenty to do within a 15-30 min drive. Our contact with the owner was very positive and we felt very welcome there and would happily return.

"Peaceful, away from it all location in a cottage that has everything you could possibly need"
Stonewall cottage is located in a small hamlet 4 miles from Holt. The cottage is well equipped for a small family & benefits from a good sized walled garden with an apple tree. Its great for kids. In less than a 1/2 hour drive you can get to most of the areas key attractions in the area including Blakney, Cley, Salthouse, Burnham Market Holkam beech & Wells. I would definately stay again.

"Very comfotable cottage"
We often rent cottages and have to say they dont all come up to spec but stonewall did we did find the kitchen a little small but that is only because we have large dogs ,the bed was the most comfortable of all the cottages we have rented and the linnen was first class,in short well worth renting and worth every penny.
Go see for yourself !!

"Highly recommended - beautiful cottage ideally located"
This is a lovely cottage. It is within easy distance of Holt, Cley-next-the-Sea, Blakeney and Wells and set in a peaceful village. The cottage is beautifully decorated throughout. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. The children enjoyed playing in the garden which is completely contained. Can't wait to go back again!
