The Puglia/Molise region

The region is renowned for its ancient olive groves and vineyards with a climate encouraging an abundance of fresh produce which can be purchased at the daily local markets.

For sun worshippers there are beaches to suit all tastes ranging from long sandy and unspoilt stretches, beaches set in coastal resorts or secluded rocky coves.

Alberobello known as the Capital of the Trulli is very unusual with lots of buildings known as trullo. The trullo is a fascinating architectural feature of this area of Puglia, a building with conical roof made without mortar. Alberobello has special status internationally - designated a UNESCO world heritage site - because its collection of some 1,500 trulli in an urban environment is unique. Some of the trulli are now used for stores, restaurants, and lodging, but many are still inhabited by locals, who are very friendly to visitors. Alberobello is a tourist attraction, but it is not overrun, especially away from the main tourist honey pot, and most visitors are Italian. Areas to visit, include the two trulli zones, the Basilica, Trullo Sovrano, the trullo church of St Antony and the trulli museum.

The caves at Castellano: Near Fasano, have magnificent underground caverns.

Cripta di San Biagio 15 mins away from Villa Poggio (and signposted) is one of the most important 'Rock Churches' in the region. Inside this cave church, you will find 12th Century paintings, and exquisite, richly decorated frescos.

Brindisi

San Vito Dei Normanni is a small farming town 16 kms from Brindisi and 12 kms to Ostuni (The White City). San Vito represents a real Puglian town, little known to tourists, therefore the bars; shops and restaurants are quaint, charming and offer good value and quality products. This is also reflected in the prices charged, making San Vito good value for money.San Vito has two post offices, a number of banks/ATM, chemists, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. San Vito, like many of the towns in the region, provides free entertainment, concerts, traditional dance and cultural events in its Piazza (town square) during the summer months. The highlight being the town’s festivals which lasts for 3 days over the second weekend of July. When you visit San Vito you will be impressed with the relaxed, friendly and above all safe atmosphere of the town, making it an ideal holiday destination. There are stunning beaches to be discovered on both coasts. The closest beach is 9 km. The Stone Villa is located just 16km from Brindisi and is within easy reach of many beautiful towns. Including Ostuni, “La Città Bianca” (The White City). Here you will discover a stunning hilltop town with many shops, bars and restaurants. Alberobello to the north, a UNESCO World heritage site, famous for the traditional picturesque Trulli stone houses. The beautiful Baroque city of Lecce is considered the Florence of the south. Also to be discovered are Martina Franca, Ceglie Messapica, Oria, Cisternino, Locorotondo and Brindisi. Brindisi has an amazing 2 km long walking area with shops and bars/restaurants that ends on the water.

"Gorgeous Villa,Pool, and Garden, very relaxing"

We were pleasantly surprised, the Villa was so much more then we saw in the photos. It was extremely spacious, with kids you need the room. Beautiful home, felt like a home not a rental. We had everything we needed and then some. The owners have thought of everything and were quite helpful and friendly. The pool was incredible and the gardens and outdoor area were just spectacular. We had a great time. The town had everything we needed and was easy to get around. Will definitely go back. Highly recommended

"Best Vacation, Stunning Villa and Pool Great for families"

We were so delighted when we arrived to find the villa so spacious and comfortable, not like a vacation rental but a home. We have 3 children and we had plenty of space to enjoy ourselves. The pool was splendid, the kids wouldnt get out. The gardens were amazing, so lovely to watch the sun go down upon them. We enjoyed BBQing and walking into town almost dailey. There was a Cafe/bar with a kids park so we enjoyed cappuccinos most mornings and the kids played. Nice to have some time to ourselves. It was truly a perfect vacation. We have just booked 2 weeks for the summer of 2013. Great villa, Great town, at a Great value. Highly recommended
