The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
The Var is a large department in Provence nestled between Marseille in the Bouches du Rhône and Nice in the Cote d'Azur regions. It boasts some spectacular scenery: inland around Brignoles there are pretty hill-top villages, dense forests of oak and pine and rolling vineyards while the coastline with its rugged cliffs is indented by idyllic bays and beaches. Like the rest of Provence this region enjoys a sunny Mediterranean climate.
The central location of the Var and our villa gives you the unique opportunity to explore everything that Provence has to offer. The mountains in the north are dotted with medieval villages such as Cotignac where you can relax in tree-shaded squares and listen to the soothing sounds of ancient stone fountains and cicadas. The local area is steeped in history: spectacular Roman architecture can be found within an hour's drive, especially around Arles, Avigon and Aix-en Provence, while at le Thoronet and la Celle just a few kilometres from Brignoles are the austerely beautiful remains of medieval abbeys. To the south, discover the many beautiful beaches nestled between pine-clad cliffs along the coast between St. Tropez and Toulon. For those who seek a little more excitement the proximity of the A8 motorway means that the lively cities of Nice, Marseille and Monte Carlo are easily reached for a day trip of shopping, museums, art galleries or even gambling!
Brignoles area
The central Var's regional capital Brignoles is a lively market town and the surrounding vineyards produce some of the region's most renowned wines. In addition to an excellent market every Saturday, the town has several big supermarkets, good restaurants and plentiful sports facilities. Every summer the town hosts a spectacular three-day festival, Les Médiévales, with colourful parades, demonstrations of medieval arts and crafts, jousting tournaments and plenty of music and dancing--great fun for all ages!
There really is something for everyone here. With one of the region's top equestrian centres adjacent to our property, this is the perfect place for horse-lovers and those keen to improve their riding skills. Around Brignoles, leisure activities abound, ranging from archery and rock climbing to paintball and go-karting. And if children and teenagers tire of more adult interests there are plenty of attractions aimed at the younger generation, including the largest aqua park in France near Frejus (50 km). Many of the beach resorts have playgrounds, skate parks, trampolines, mini motorbikes and crazy golf. For hikers, details of 39 walks in the area can be obtained from the local tourist office. The hills and forests are home to a fascinating array of flora and fauna, including the last remaining species of wild tortoise in France.
The gourmand will not be disappointed: local delicacies include excellent lamb, truffles and other wild mushrooms, sheep's milk cheeses, olives and, of course, the region's delicious pale pink rosé wines. There is some excellent dining in the area, including a world-class restaurant at the 12th century abbey of La Celle, a quaint little village just 2km from our house. Many of the local vineyards offer tours of the wineries and tasting sessions.

Guestbook
"Thank you, we had a lovely time and could not have asked for a better, warmer, fully loaded home. Since we had reserved this on the net and had seen limited photos (which does not justify the property at all), we were initially apprehensive. Coming to a new country with small children and being not so close to big cities, we took are chance and are very glad today for doing that. We felt the warmth of a home which made our experience extremely enjoyable." S, Prakash, New Delhi
"We have had two and a half wonderful weeks with everthing we could possibly need at your house. What a beautiful home, clean, great and a very warm place to be. A perfect garden and swimming pool, the weather was good and a very nice "Theo" (the housekeeper). It was a lovely holiday and we thank you for that." M. Felix, Netherlands
"We have had a glorious holiday at your home in France. To say we enjoyed ourselves is an understatement! First of all having a kitchen with every utensil required is fantastic, as I love to cook. The peace and tranquility of the place was wonderful. My two younger boys do not like crowds, noise etc, so for them it really was the perfect place to chill and relax. My 18 year old did not want to leave to go home--this has never happened before!!" S. Withers, UK
