The Brighton and Hove region
80 miles of coastline means super beaches for the family; here are lovely gardens, history and heritage; castles, abbeys, priories, stately homes and historic houses. There are family amusement parks and wildlife centres; the nostalgic, the curious and the simply fun, including museums of bygones, steam railways and caves.
Sussex boasts numerous theatres and arts festivals, golf courses, horse racing, many ancient churches and buildings plus large Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty over the South Downs and Ashdown Forest, (including the soon-to-be-designated South Downs National Park) - and don't forget the Sussex Pub!
Info provided by tourist board
England’s loveliest and liveliest city by the sea. Brighton and Hove is fun, cosmopolitan and uniquely eccentric all year round. Regency architecture, pleasure pier, specialist shops, pavement cafés, lively arts scene and vibrant night-life, everything is in walking distance, so take time to explore and enjoy. And with a backdrop of the Sussex Downs and traditional English countryside, Brighton and Hove is a great base for exploring the region.
Brighton and Hove is the most enchanting, exciting, extraordinary seaside city in Britain. However brazen that may sound, it is no exaggeration. With its cosmopolitan air, oodles of restaurants, feverish nightlife and abundance of culture, the place defies comparison with anywhere else this side of the English Channel.

"Clean, comfortable, well-equipped and central"
This apartment provided the perfect base for our 7 day trip to Brighton. We didn't want to pay the price of a boutique hotel and thought this would be the perfect, self-catering alternative (best way to make use of the countless local coffee houses, breakfast, lunch and dinner places!) It's close to the prom (East of the pier by about a 10 minute walk), just a few minute's walk to Kemp Town shops/cafes/bars/restaurants and about 10-15 minute walk to central Brighton (lanes, Pavillion, station etc.)
The check-in/out process was smooth and the apartment was clean, very well-equipped and reasonably modern/stylish. There are two double bedrooms (though the second bedroom just about fits the bed in, plus a little wardrobe/clothes storage space), a great shower/bathroom and open kitchen/lounge with all mod cons.
We'd happily book to stay here again!
We are delighted that you had a good stay in Brighton and look forward to welcoming you back.

"Little things mean a lot"
Well, maybe this apartment was suffering from end of season fatigue - I note the other reviews are from April - but I would not describe it as luxurious by any means and there were several little irri… More
Dear Guest, thank you so much for taking the time to give us this feedback. We are terribly sorry that you were disappointed with elements of your stay at Portland Place and apologise unreservedly for any shortcomings on this occasion.
It was not acceptable that the apartment had not been completely prepared for your arrival due to unexpected staff absence, and we are very sorry that your visit was marred by this. I understand that Anna, the Managing Director of the property management company, attended personally to apologise and advise you of this in person. Anna advises us that the beds were made up soon afterwards and we understand that she also helped you take your bags inside the apartment.
It is unacceptable that there were some blown bulbs, and we have now made arrangements for the cleaning crew to check all the lights before leaving and replace any bulbs. On this occasion it transpires that a well-meaning previous guest had attempted to change a bulb which had broken and become jammed. This did require an electrician visit as you mentioned.
A brand new central heating boiler was fitted in 2011 and is tested annually to ensure guests safety and comfort. A carbon monoxide detector is a good idea however, so we will be fitting one in time for the 2014 season!
Finally you mention parking, and we would agree at certain times of year it can be a challenge. We are able to supply Residents Parking Permits that might make parking easier and more convenient. These can be reserved when booking Portland Place.
We strive to provide a really lovely 'home from home' in Brighton for dozens of guests from all over the world every year. Unfortunately your stay was marred by a few issues for which we apologise. Thanks to your feedback we can endeavour to ensure it doesn't happen again. Laura and Paul.
