"Beautiful Boutique Brighton"
We stayed at the Sweet Shop for my hen do in April. There were 12 of us girls and we couldnt have asked for a better weekend. The house is lovely and full of character, with everything we needed for the weekend including all the crockery and facilities we needed for afternoon tea. The rooms are beautiful, especially the ones on the top floor and the house is in easy walking distance of the seafront and pretty cheap in taxis for those wearing heels :) It simply had everything we needed and more.
My only comments apart from how fantastic the house was were that due to the house being an old house, obviously 12 girls will make it quite noisy and you do have to take care with the neighbours. Also the plumbing does struggle a little for that amount of people but not to the point where anyone went without a hot shower. The only thing i would say might be a nice to have would be a WIFI connection.
Otherwise would definitely recommend the Sweet Shop

"Fabulous house for a hen party!"
We were looking for somewhere that a group of hens could use as a base for lots of exciting adventures and this was perfect! The location was ideal for walking into town which was an easy walk which we did often. The only thing to remember is that the roads around are very skinny for cars so once parked we just left ours there. The rooms were just what we needed for a big group of friends and all beautifully decorated. Our favourite room was the lounge and kitchen which was very social and used at all times of the day. Well done Sweet Shop you did exactly what it said on the tin and thank you for hosting lovely hen do!

12 Girls arrived at the house with great anticipation, it was a rare treat to get away from the hustle & bustle of daily lives back home, so we all wanted to make the most of it. We were not disappointed, the house is a little treasure trove, with lots of feminine & cute aspects to it and rooms to explore. With 3 floors and a back yard there was plenty of space for us to gather together.. or to get away from each other if required. The house had plenty of facilities, home from home, we had a food shop delivered straight to our door and were able to put on a big buffet.
Regarding serivce, we couldn't get the ipod player working but within just 5 minutes our housekeeper Tina had sent someone round to show us. I'm not going to say the house was perfect for anyone that is fussy, the odd door handle came off in your hand but no-one got stuck in a room, a light didn't work but we had lamps, it's not pristine or a minimalist house if thats what you like, but its very comfortable, you don't feel on edge like you can't touch anything, its an older property with a homely feel, everyone settled very quickly and it was perfect for us.
A couple of notes to point out, you might not get parked immediately outside the house but we had 3 cars between us that all managed to find a space within 300metres or less. Also, you are on the top of a hill, it's a nice walk into town or the beach with flat shoes, but its not for those with high heels where taxi's are a must but are in ample & prompt supply. It's about £5 to get a taxi to the station.
The area is very picturesque, the houses are all multicoloured and you can hear the seagulls giving you a real beach holiday feel.
For our purposes we had a wonderful weekend, of course it is what you make it but I'd give it 10/10.

"Just perfect for our hen do"
There were 14 of us staying in The Sweet Shop for our friend's hen do and it was absolutely brilliant. Sophie and co were all really helpful throughout and we wanted for nothing. Even when one of the showers stopped working it was fixed immediately so there weren't any problems. The only tiny downside is that if you are the full 14 then some people will have to sleep in the living room but it's very comfortable even then. The house is decorated beautifully throughout and definately isn't run of the mill. We would all highly recommend a the Sweet Shop for a fun stay. It's an easy walk into Brighton as well.

"Vintage heaven in chocolate-box perfect pink cottage"
I stayed at the Sweet Shop with a group of nine girls for a posh Brighton hen weekend, with a vintage theme. Upon arrival, I knew we'd picked the right place. The photos of the cottage are great but the impact on entering it is quite another thing. We all had a great time exploring the property and all its charming details. Everyone said that it felt like home instantly. Quite simply, if you are booking accommodation for a hen weekend or girl's break in Brighton, book the Sweet Shop!
The downstairs kitchen/lounge is the real centrepiece of the place, with its large comfy sofas and kitsch cushions and paintings. It lends a great vibe to a low key house party, though you need to be mindful of noise due to it being on a road of close-knit cottages in a residential neighbourhood.
In terms of AV equipment, the place is kitted out with a decent sized plasma TV, iPod dock with surround speakers and DVD player. It has WiFi though I had some trouble getting connectivity in certain areas of the house at times. No big deal.
The kitchen is beautifully decorated in vintage flower panels and the large table seats 10 at a squeeze. We did afternoon tea with proper cups and tiers etc from a local hire company (Vintage Tea Leaves) and that combined with the gorgeous crockery already in the cottage (lots of interesting vintage china etc) made for a perfect champagne afternoon tea. The cottage is very well kitted out with kitchen items. You could probably make quite an elaborate feast there!
We had nice weather so were able to enjoy the cute garden and its little roofed seating area. It gets a nice spot of sun during the day.
Walking to central Brighton and The Lanes etc is no problem and do-able in 15 minutes. Perhaps another 10 to the seafront. Cabs to the front were about a fiver (double that at night). We all found free on-street parking really close to the cottage and getting there is a synch by car. It's about 10 minutes off the A23, if that.
There are a couple of shops locally but it is mainly a residential area so probably best to either stock up before going or take the owner's recommendation and order a home delivery. That said, there is a great butchers just around the corner and also Fanny's Deli, which I'd recommend.
The owners, property manager and maintenance people were all efficient, professional and amiable. The property manager met me when I arrived, even though I was about two hours early and showed me around. When there were TV issues, which turned out to be me not being able to navigate the remote control (!) a maintenance man arrived as soon as I contacted them about it.
The owners have a lovely manner, from their emails to the very helpful welcome pack you receive with the cottage suggesting everything from great local fish n' chips to companies that deliver you breakfast boxes (Bonjour Breakfast?). Decadent!
It's difficult to think of anything that could have been improved. Perhaps it is worth mentioning that the twin rooms are quite small with teenie single beds. This is mainly, I think, due to the age and architecture of the property and still the main thing was being able to fit us all in. In that way, the bedrooms did the job perfectly but just maybe put your tiny people in those beds is all!
The beds are all very comfy and sleep quality was excellent, though once the sun was up the bedrooms filled with gorgeous light. I say this for a balanced review and not because it was in any way a deal breaker. If you are sensitive to light, maybe take a sleep mask.
There are two gorgeous bathrooms with showers with a big bath on the top floor. Both provided enough hot water for 9 girls to all take hot showers when getting ready to go out all at the same time.
In conclusion, everyone in my group was in love with the place. It is cosy, quirky and comfortable. It is also wonderfully managed, spotless and efficiently run. It provides a perfect base for a Brighton holiday, while also offering a gorgeous temporary home. If you book the Sweet Shop (and do!) make sure to plan time just to be in the cottage and garden. It has a great atmosphere and lots of curious and wonderful object d'art. We'll definitely return.
