About the home

Orchard Cottage is in the former walled garden of Newtimber Place, a 17th Century moated house. Formerly a potting shed, it has been converted to a high standard, and has been awarded 4 Stars by the Tourist Board. You can search for Newtimber Place and you will find all about it and about all our cottages.

Of the 3 bedrooms, 2 are en-suite, whilst the twin has its own shower room. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed with en suite bathroom with a bath and a separate shower. It has extensive views of the Downs and is in a rural location, yet is within easy reach of Brighton and Hove. Children and Walkers welcome. Weekend/midweek breaks available during the winter.

For business travellers, there is broadband at the cottage and VAT invoices are issued on request.

“Idyllic, Relaxing, Peaceful and Perfect” We stayed at Orchard Cottage for a week and used it as a base for visits to the many surrounding villages and towns as well as Brighton. It was also perfect just to sit around, read a book and enjoy the quiet, peaceful setting - although on occasion the noise for the main A road could be heard. The complimentary Wi-Fi was a fantastic added bonus and the accommodation was luxurious with everything we needed. We will definitely be back again.

“We had a fantastic holiday in a beautiful cottage” A very well equipped cottage and very clean. Wifi worked perfect, the children (17 and 21) were very glad about that.The area is beautiful, Brighton is nearby. Even Oxford is within visit range. The home made cake, jam, milk and butter we found at our arrival was a great suprise! We recommend this cottage!

“Lovely, would definitely come again.” We have stayed twice at Orchard Cottage, both times for a holiday with extended family, it is great for adults and for small children - clean, well equipped, thoughtful touches like homemade jams and removable stairgates, a really safe garden for kids and plenty of bathrooms which makes the holiday so much more civilised! It's really accessible from London where we live yet feels like the middle of nowhere - in a good way! We're all looking forward to our next visit.

“A lovely house in a great location” A lovely spacious and well maintained property. Has everything that you would want or need. Basic groceries and a home made cake await visitors. A rural location and only a short journey into Brighton. Highly recommended.

“Excellently appointed cottage close to Brighton” Five of us stayed at the cottage for a long weekend. Everything worked well, and with 3 en suites they was no waiting for a shower. The cottage was clean and very well appointed. It's a little tricky to find off the A23 because you have to loop back over the road, but if you follow the directions carefully it's fine. Small touches like the jams, bread and eggs left for us showed good customer service. The property details, like where to eat, were comprehensive, I would have no problem recommending the cottage.

“The best of all that is british!” We had a great holiday. The cottage is excellent and in beautiful surroundings. The garden was safe for the children to play in. Lots to do in the surrounding area but it is a good place just 'to be', relax and enjoy. It was our second visit, we will go again. “Excellent!” A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The surroundings are very peaceful - the sheep are your neighbours. Very easy to get into central Brighton. We tried the park and ride on one occassion and a taxi on another. The owners obviously went out of their way to make each stay a pleasant experience with lots of groceries available for use. The home made banana cake was simply delicious! “Well presented, well equipped, an extremely comfortable cottage.” This has to be one of the best holiday homes I have stayed in. The owners have gone to a great deal of trouble to present their guests with a well equipped extemely comfortable cottage having a great deal of room. In particular the downstairs en-suite bedroom is a great asset, if like us, you have an elderly disabled relative on holiday with you. The owners are helpful and on the spot and any small issues that may arise, not that any of any great significance did, are immediately dealt with. Not only is the cottage well equipped but the quality of the furniture and other equipment is excellent and nothing you may need has been forgotten. There are other nice touches such as the homemade cake and jams together with enough basic groceries to make you feel really welcome and able to relax with tea and cake after your journey. The only downside is that the constant traffic noise from the A23 precludes sitting outside, on the well appointed patio, for any length of time. The traffic noise cannot be heard from inside the cottage and this will certainly not stop us from being return vistors.

“Very comfortable and suitable for family with young children” We had a very nice time there. Everything was done to make our stay easy and comfortable. Essentials were provided as we arrived. The owner prepared a delicious cake. A very good welcome. Many very useful pieces of information about the cottage are provided by the owner. The garden is a very good convenience for children. The cottage's surroundings are wonderful, many magnificent trees. Newtimber is a delightful place. The road A23 is a bit noisy but two days after our arrival we no longer heard it. A good location for a day trip to London by train (Hassocks station).
