There are many interesting places to visit in Sussex. The county town of Lewes is famous for its antique shops and narrow streets. It boasts a beautiful old Manor house in gardens at Southover Grange and Anne of Cleeves house near the old Priory and one of the oldest castles in England. Chichester is another city worth visiting with a beautiful cathedral, along with Arundel, which has an old castle overlooking the river Adur.
Other seaside towns are Eastbourne and Hastings with the old Fishermans quarter and Ashdown Forest has a large expanse of moors for interesting walks. There are also many excellent golf courses in the area, including the International standard, East Sussex National course in Uckfield.
Access to London by train is easy and fast - the train from Brighton calls at London Bridge where you can get a tube directly to the Olympic stadia. Also St. Pancras International is on the same line which is where you can take Eurostar to Paris or Brussels. Newhaven port is nearby and offers ferries over to Dieppe in France.
The Brighton and Hove / Hove area
Brighton and Hove has a wide range of activities throughout the Summer especially on the beach with music, movies and beach volleyball competitions. There are Summer fayres in the park and the city is alive 24 hours a day. The Royal Pavilion is in the centre of the city and is a beautiful palace built as the summer home for Prince Regent later to become King George IV of England. It is well worth a visit for its exotic decor and history. Brighton has a pier into the sea with entertainment and a well know fish and chip restaurant, as well as a large wheel on the sea front giving great views of the surrounding area.
Hove is a little more sedate and Hove Park is only a short walk away with a large childrens playground for all ages and wide open spaces for cricket and other balls games.
Sussex cricket ground is nearby in Hove and top level cricket matches can be seen throughout the Summer.
The Brighton Centre has a selection of childrens show during the long Summer vacation and also concerts of famous bands and pop artists. There is a Museum, Art Gallery and an indoor swimming pool in the town centre and an outdoor Lido swimming pool when the weather gets really hot in Saltdean, where there are also some lovely rockpools to explore.
