The South East England / Sussex region
Brighton is the liveliest, most cosmopolitan resort in the UK situated on the south coast and with a spendid backdrop of the downs hills. The architecture is largely in a grand regency style and the centrepiece of town is the famous Brighton pavillion with its exotic, royal history.
Dotted around the region are old Sussex villlages with their quintessential English pubs, stately homes such as Glyndebourne famous for its summer concerts and castles such as Arundel and Lewes.
There are numerous days out to be had from Brighton such as by train to London, by ferry over to France, up to Legoland or to Thorpe Park for the children or to the glorious beaches of West Wittering and Bournemouth. Events happen in the region all year round. You can enjoy the Brighton theatre festival in the spring, the racing at Goodwood, powerboat races from the marina and the numerous events that happen down on the beach throughout the summer.
Brighton and Hove area
The property is 5 minutes by car from the centre of Brighton with its great shopping, cafe culture, beach with boardwalk, pier, pavillion, the 'lanes' area and every type of nightlife you could hope for from theatre culture through to nightclubs on the beach. Brighton is home to numerous restaurants from fine dining at Hotel Du Vin to Harry Ramsden's fish and chip shop.
From the property, you can walk to the east over the downs to the smugglers village of Rottingdean where Rudyard Kipling wrote much of his work or to the west, along the coastal path to Brighton Marina. The marina is the largest in England and is busy in the summer with yachts and motor boats coming and going and numerous events going on.
There are many good bars and restaurants where you can eat out in the sun soaking up the atmosphere and particularly recommended is Zingarellas, an Italian cafe selling cakes made by a Napolitan pastry chef. Opposite the marina is the start of fashionable Kemp Town, a cosmopolitan area of cafes and gay culture.
On the hill behind the marina is the Brighton Race Course which makes for a fun day out betting on the horses or just enjoying the views over the sea and downs from the stands.
