The South East England / Sussex region
There is much to see in the region. In a Westerly direction you will come to(within an hour´s drive) the lovely old town of Arundel with its 900 year old castle and also the attractive river setting. Slightly further on you have the Roman City of Chichester - a must for first time visitors.
Over in the East you reach first of all the charming and ancient seaside village of Rottingdean(4 miles away) then the port of Newhaven with its ferry service to Dieppe in France, followed by Seaford with its long shingle beach and then finally the Victorian resort town of Eastbourne(18 miles away). To the North East you arrive, within half an hour, at the old town of Lewes with its many quaint little streets. We must not forget the South Downs(now a National Park) - only a few miles to the North with its many pretty downland villages.
The Brighton and Hove / Brunswick area
In Brighton & Hove there is the Royal Pavilion(a must for the first time visitor), the Lanes an also the North Laine district. The Brighton Pier is definitely worth a trip down - excellent fish and chips and nice sea views. Further out there is Preston Manor. Brighton has a festival in May every year - generally there is always something happening somewhere in the area to suit all tastes.
