The South East England / Essex region
Among the regions attractions is the city of Colchester.
www.colchester.uk.com
Colchester is Britain's first Roman city. Colchester enjoys Britain's most continental climate - cold winters, hot summers, year-round sunshine and the country's lowest rainfall - which make it ideal for growing roses and strawberries, and making exceptionally good English wine!
It was here that the Emperor Claudius received the surrender of the celtic kings to found the Roman Province of Britannia. And every era since - from the Saxon, the Norman, the Medieval, the Tudor, the Stuart, the Georgian, the Victorian to the Modern - has left its mark on the town and added to the richness of its heritage.
Another short journey from Brightlingsea is Wivenhoe.
The streets are small and quaint, leading into each other and ending at the picturesque waterfront where fishing boats and small sailing craft bob at their moorings. When you fall in love with it you will join the long line of artists, farmers, writers, shopkeepers and sailing folk who have lived here and loved it too.
Brightlingsea area
Brightlingsea is a coastal town in the Tendring district of Essex, roughly mid-way between Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea, situated at the mouth of the River Colne, on Brightlingsea Creek.
Brightlingsea is well known for it's colourful beach huts and from across the water you can see Mersea Island. Brightlingsea has a small beach in a semicircular shape and is suitable for you if you don't want to go to a packed beach resort, and just want a quiet day out.
It's a great area for walking, birdwatching and, above all, sailing!
As for local shops, they are a five minute walk away. Small local shops and bigger well known names are all to hand. The local restaurants are a two minute walk. A great south indian being a favourite.
The marina development itself is due to have approx 30 shops of all sorts including bars, restaurants, a chandelry etc...
