About this location
The Essex region
Brightlingsea is a limb of the historical Cinque Ports connected to Sandwich. We are a small town situated at the mouth of the River Colne in South-East England across the sea from The Netherlands. A popular area with tourists there is plenty to do visiting nearby attractions or enjoying our seaside and nature walks. A great area for all ages. There is an active Sailing and Yacht Club holding annual events like Pyfleet Week and Regatta. In early August there is the Annual Free Brightlingsea Music Festival for 3 days right on your doorstep on the Green. Nearby Colchester is a thriving busy town with Roman Walls still there surrounding part of this, the oldest recorded town with its famous Colchester Castle, Zoo, Mecury Theatre, art galleries, museums, restaurants, cafe, cinema and buzzing night life. A short drive is the famous Constable Country and Dedham with its fabulous restaurant Le Talbooth. For children Clacton Jetty is full of rides and fun nestled in a long stretch of sandy beach. For a more refined atmosphere Frinton and Wivenhoe are close by. Although in North Essex, we border Suffolk and onto Norfolk so there is plenty to do by car and plenty to do walking locally. A trip to London is only 50 minutes on the intercity express.
Wander down to the west of Brightlingsea Creek to the western promenade and find lines of beach huts, an english tradition, boating lake, beach, open-air swimming pool, playground and skate park alongside picnic areas with tables and benches. Batemans Tower is a local landmark where you may look out to sea and watch the sunset over West Mersea or catch a local water taxi from our harbour whilst watching the yachts and sail boats glide by. There is cafes, restaurants, shops, museum, supermarkets, live music/theatre, and nature parks/walks.Its a wonderful place to be beside the sea in Brightlingsea!

"fabulous stay in lovely english countryside house near the sea"
great stay, host was very friendly and helpful about the area, good clean comfortable house with a fully in bloom garden and terrace with a garden house to relax in.All kitchen equipment supplied, towels, linen with washing machine, microwave, kettle etc. Bathroom has bath and shower and the beds were very comfortable. Views from every window and shops nearby, restaurants and a great winebar in the cutest harbour called Triscinis. The Rosebud pub is a few houses along and serves meals too with a lovely garden seating area swith views too. Will be back, most definitely!!! Perfect moment, sitting in the garden with birds and butterflies abound.

"fabulous and delightful cottage"
What a lovely house and amazing garden with so many different plants. We stayed on the terrace and enjoyed the view and the birds singing. The house was great with all we needed and a very cosy double bed. The children enjoyed the terrace house outside to play in.Looking out on to the village green was really nice and seeing the occasional horse go by.Every room in the house was lovely and we really enjoyed our stay. There is a delightful English pub a few doors away called The Rosebud and we had our dinner here and met some of the locals. The high st has loads of little shops, local bakery, butchers, fishmonger, health shop, little tescos and co-op.There are restaurants and pub food and down on the harbour a fabulous wine-coffee bar called Triscinis. The beach has café shop too. plenty of views and walks
