As you can imagine we were upset to receive this review and are sorry that this guest did not like our cottage. We have taken every issue raised and have endeavoured to rectify any problems he had.
We gave this guest a discount initially for the booking and repaid his deposit via bank transfer on 17/08/2012 and subsequently a refund on 4/09/2012.
We corresponded via email on 17th,20th and 30th August regarding his grievances.
Initially he left no messages for us to respond to so we had no idea he was unhappy.
It is indeed a family friendly cottage. We have spent many happy holidays there with our own two young children and are especially aware of safety issues and potential problems.
The antique cot and highchair have been used by our own children and are completely safe, meeting all BS safety standards, the uprights are of regulation width and no lead paint or varnishes have been used on either cot or highchair. The cot mattress had been cleaned and had a new waterproof mattress cover on it.
The original oak panelling in the hallway (not a door) has never posed a problem before but has been further secured to avert any future problems.
The well in the garden which has a stone wall around it, the top being 4ft from the ground has had a galvanised steel grid bolted onto it for some years and is safe enough for an adult to jump on.This was in place during this guest's visit.
There is nothing in our info guide that stipulates " No splashing in the bath". We do however suggest that one avoids taking off the shower hose and spraying water directly onto the spotlights in the ceiling for obvious reasons.
All pillows ,duvet covers, towels are new ( bought April 2012) from John Lewis
The crushed velvet sofa and armchair covers are removable and are cleaned on a regular basis.
We have put photos on the site to show the cottage as it is .We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the cottage and offer a uniquely restored country cottage with many antiques, collectables and pieces of art.
If unable to meet guests on arrival we have instantly contactable telephone numbers and are happy to deal with any problems a guest may have as quickly as possible.
We hope that this guests grievances do not put anyone off staying at Cockcrowing Cottage. We have had many guests stay who have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and appreciated the cottage and have had a happy and safe time there.
