Symondsbury Manor is a beautiful Tudor house set in 2.5 acres of grounds, the front lawn landscaped, the back garden left as natural habitat. The property is right in the heart of the village, standing behind the church and the rectory. There are superb views over the surrounding hills and countryside from the walled garden.

Cosy and comfortable inside, Symondsbury is decorated in a mixture of traditional and contemporary styles. The house has six double rooms (two with a four posters), five twin rooms and one single bedroom.

The house contains a large number of paintings both contemporary and traditional which have been collected by the owner, who is himself a painter, over a period of time. The interior is colourful and comfortable and lends itself well to weekend house parties. Thomas Hardy came to tea here in 1883 and Symondsbury Manor has hosted a number of well known figures in the Arts in recent years.

Cosy and comfortable inside, Symondsbury Manor is decorated in a mixture of traditional and contemporary styles.

Five double rooms, two of which have single beds in them, making an ideal family suite.

Five twin rooms, two of which can be made up as doubles.

Two single rooms, one of which joins onto the double room in the attic.

There are five bathrooms and lavatories and one of the twin bedrooms is on the ground floor and easily accessible for elderly or disabled guests.

The living room is sixty feet long with a large table at the end that seats twenty three. At the other end a large oak panelled hall overlooks the front garden.

Symondsbury has the usual facilities including TV. The beds all have duvets, pillows and linen. You will need to bring your own towels. Children are very welcome. Please enquire regarding pets.

The West Country region

Inland, the Dorset countryside offers the spectacular hill forts of Maiden Castle and Eggardon and the charming villages of Thomas Hardy's Wessex. Ideal hiking and biking country.

Bridport

Bridport, the nearest town, is a mile and a half away. It has large street markets twice a week selling fruit and vegetables, antiques, bric a brac and local crafts. Bridport Leisure Centre is well equipped for indoor swimming, squash, badminton, weight training etc and there are golf, horse riding, sailing and diving facilities within easy reach. There is a wide choice of restaurants and good pubs including one in Symondsbury only 100 metres from the Manor.

Symondsbury is only a short distance from the seaside towns of West Bay, Charmouth and Lyme Regis which are all a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast famous for its geology and fossil finds also offering fine beaches, fishing and watersports. Weymouth and Portland which are only 18 miles away have been chosen to play host to the 2012 Olympic sailing events.
