About the home

The Apple House has a woodburning stove in an open plan living room. The low level kitchen (built originally for a wheelchair user) and bathroom are downstairs. The double bedroom has a four-poster bed . The Apple House has exclusive use of a large covered veranda with picnic table.

The ideal place for a peaceful relaxing holiday, but equally well lends itself as a centre for exploring the surrounding countryside designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and the Jurassic Coast designated a World Heritage Site.

Cottage has open plan living room with woodburning stove. Kitchen with low level units (built for wheelchair user). Bathroom downstairs. Double bedroom with four-poster bed, twin bedroom. Airing cupboard.
Veranda outside with picnic table and drying facilities (tumble drier and washing lines).
Shared garden with heated swimming pool, garden slopes down to River Brit and is bordered by fields on either side. The owner has sheep, horses and poultry and a large vegetable garden. Occasionally fresh eggs and vegetables will be available to purchase (also frozen lamb).

Holiday makers are welcome to use disposable BBQs in the garden below the upper levels - the risk to the thatch and the polycarbonate roof of veranda cannot be overstated.

The swimming pool has changing rooms and a covered area. There are sun loungers available. There is no lifeguard on duty for the pool.

The garden has two small ornamental ponds. With the swimming pool, the river and the farm also accessible we strongly recommend that parents supervise their children at all times. The farm is out of bounds to holiday makers unless expressly invited and accompanied by the owner.

Bookings (except where short breaks indicated) are for whole weeks running from Saturday to Saturday.

Deposit of minimum 25% required at time of booking, balance to be received at least 6 weeks before date holiday due to commence (or whole sum immediately if late booking nearer date of holiday). PLEASE NOTE THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CANCELLATION A REFUND WILL ONLY BE GIVEN IF WE ARE ABLE TO REBOOK THE DATES, subject to retention of up to 10% for inconvenience.

The prices charged for your holiday include electricity used for heating water and storage heaters, and from May to September the use of the pool. There are no further charges for power. An initial supply of coal, and unlimited logs will also be provided.

Linen is provided on beds. Two tea towels are provided. Towels are not supplied to UK guests, but are provided to guests from aboad. Towels can be supplied to UK guests at a charge of £5 per week per set of hand and bath towel.

The West Country / Dorset region

West Dorset is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The local towns and villages have a wonderfully individual character and the larger towns have some great shops, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions. The Jurassic Heritage Coast is easily accessible and has exciting beaches and countryside to explore.

The climate is warm in summer with generally less rainfall than is forecast. Recent winters have been rather wet with occasional cold spells with overnight temperatures down to -4 deg C. We have very little snow near the coast, so make the most of the rare opportunity to enjoy it!

The Swannery at Abbotsbury, the Children's Barn and the Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens are all about 20 minutes away by car. Lyme Regis with its tea rooms, fossil and other tourist shops is well worth the 25 minute drive. 45 minutes away is Weymouth, with glorious sandy beaches, a theatre, trips to the Channel islands and preparations for the 2012 Olympic sailing events.

The Bridport area

Bridport has a twice weekly market (Wed and Sat), a monthly farmers' market. The town and surrounding villages are full of excellent pubs and restaurants for eating out. West Bay has a wonderful wet fish shop and several food kiosks selling local food, an indoor swimming pool and an interesting small museum in the Salt House.

There is a leisure centre south of the town with facilities for all the family, which could be useful on the odd inclement day. The Library, Museum and the Tourist Information Centre are located in South Street.

There is a children's riding centre at Elwell, Waytown. There is fishing available at Mangerton Mill. The nearest golf course is just east of West Bay on the cliffs.

Walkers will have an embarassment of choice, from the South West Coast Path and many links to numerous countryside rambles including several long-distance paths - Jubilee Trail, Wessex Ridgeway, Monarch's Way, Liberty Trail, and a little further afield the East Devon Path. It is possible to walk to Bridport along the Brit Way, with a little lane walking.

Camesworth Farm is in the hamlet of Oxbridge, half a mile to the west of the A3066. The turning is 2 miles north of the outskirts of Bridport (turn left) and about quarter of a mile south of Melplash (turn right).

From the London area two main routes are possible: M3, M27 west, A31, A35, A3066 north from Bridport: or M3, A303, A356 through Crewkerne and Misterton, A3066 south through Beaminster and Melplash.

From west use A303 and join Crewkerne route, or A35 via Honiton to Bridport, both routes joining the A3066.
