About the home
Toad Hall comprises of the centre section of Cannington Grange - a large Victorian Country House set in its own private 3.5 acre landscaped gardens.
The Hall has a characterful layout - it was originally a barn and is the oldest part of the Grange - and has a lovely spacious feel.
Downstairs is a large living room, with ample seating for 8, plus an 8 seater dining table - the stone-floored kitchen is well equipped and also has an 8 seater dining table (which means if you are hosting a larger group using other cottages, there is ample space for, for example, a buffet style meal).
There is a twin room on the ground floor, and also a bathroom, both of which are ideal for guests where mobility may be an issue - although it must be noted that due to the age of the building it is on slightly different levels which would make it awkward if a level floor throughout was needed.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms - two of them boast 4-poster beds, whilst the third is a twin room with sleigh beds. Overall there are 3 bathrooms shared by the 4 bedrooms.
The range of facilities on offer at The Grange is what makes us different - there are 3.5 acres of shared landscaped gardens, within which you will find an indoor heated pool/hot tub/sauna complex with a small gym, a fishing lake, a separate games room and lots of outside kids play equipment.
All of these facilities are shared by the 8 properties at Cannington Grange - it doesn't get crowded here, however - there is so much space and the gardens are laid out in such a way that even when we are full, its easy to find a quiet spot.
If you are looking for a venue to hold a family-gathering type event - Toad Hall can be combined with other properties to give accommodation up to a maximum of 44 people, lesser numbers can be achieved by mixing different properties, so there is no need to pay for accommodation you will not be using.
Toad Hall and Ruscombe Hall can share an interlinking door, which would give perfect accommodation for 16/18 people effectively in one overall property.
Whatever your accommodation needs, this is a great spot to explore the area - although in a private setting, we are well placed with easy access to the M5 and the A39 Coast Road.

The lake (about half acre) has a good mix of fish - carp, roach, rudd, perch etc.
To the front of The Grange is a large crocquet lawn.
We are occasionally asked about marquees for larger gatherings - there is space for a marquee to the rear - a suitable size for approx 70 people - we allow this when The Grange is booked in entirety by one group - we cant allow marquees where other guests have already booked accommodation, nor do we provide facilities for visitors who are not staying with us at The Grange (an example would be access to the swimming pool etc).
We have hosted wedding receptions previously, but we are not licensed for weddings.
We ask for a non-refundable deposit of £150 - the balance is then due 8 weeks before arrival.
The West Country / Somerset region
Ruscombe Hall is set at the foot of the Quantock Hills, Englands first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - taking the coast road will lead you past numerous beaches (including one for fossil hunters) and small villages - Dunster and its castle, Minehead, Porlock and Exmoor are all less than an hours drive.
There are theme parks within driving distance (Crealy Park is about an hour, Longleat about an hour and a quarter), but much closer are places such as Cheddar, Wookey Hole or Glastonbury Tor.
There is an excellent outlet shopping village at Street, and Bristol with its Cabot Circus, or Cribbs Causeway, are all close by.
The Westcountry is, quite rightly, the No.1 holiday destination in the UK., and we are very well placed for exploring it.
The Bridgwater area
Bridgwater, whilst in itself not a holiday town, does host the largest illuminated carnival in Europe, second only to the Rio Carnival - this takes place in November and is truly impressive - it is the birthplace and home of Squib running, gaint carnival fireworks on poles - this should be on everybody's 'must see' list.
Once through Bridgwater, the area changes to countryside - our village of Cannington has a shop, a post office, a butchers, a bakers and a newsagents, plus 3 pubs within the village and numerous others just outside.
The road from Cannington carries on all the way to Minehead, then on to Exmoor and into North Devon. It gives access to a number of good beaches, Kilve is about 15 mins away and is unusual in that it is part of Jurassic coastline, so is perfect for fossil hunting. Beyond that lies Watchett, Blue Anchor, Dunster and then Minehead itself, all sandy.
Within Cannington are some good facilities, a golf course, the Walled Garden visitor gardens, paintballing, to name a few.
We can also suggest beauticians, shooting (shotgun), horse riding for adults or children, and there are several good places to eat - including some pubs who do genuinely home-cooked still.
You wont be bored here!
