There are several very good beaches - the closest being approx 15 mins away, with Minehead - which has an excellent beach for families - being about 35 mins away. Of particular interest should be Kilve - part of the Jurassic coastline and ideal for fossil hunting.

The West Country region

Ruscombe Hall is set at the foot of the Quantock Hills, Englands first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - taking the coast road will lead you past numerous beaches (including one for fossil hunters) and small villages - Dunster and its castle, Minehead, Porlock and Exmoor are all less than an hours drive.

There are theme parks within driving distance (Crealy Park is about an hour, Longleat about an hour and a quarter), but much closer are places such as Cheddar, Wookey Hole or Glastonbury Tor.

There is an excellent outlet shopping village at Street, and Bristol with its Cabot Circus, or Cribbs Causeway, are all close by.

The Westcountry is, quite rightly, the No.1 holiday destination in the UK., and we are very well placed for exploring it.

Bridgwater

Bridgwater, whilst in itself not a holiday town, does host the largest illuminated carnival in Europe, second only to the Rio Carnival - this takes place in November and is truly impressive - it is the birthplace and home of Squib running, gaint carnival fireworks on poles - this should be on everybody's 'must see' list.

Once through Bridgwater, the area changes to countryside - our village of Cannington has a shop, a post office, a butchers, a bakers and a newsagents, plus 3 pubs within the village and numerous others just outside.

The road from Cannington carries on all the way to Minehead, then on to Exmoor and into North Devon. It gives access to a number of good beaches, Kilve is about 15 mins away and is unusual in that it is part of Jurassic coastline, so is perfect for fossil hunting. Beyond that lies Watchett, Blue Anchor, Dunster and then Minehead itself, all sandy.

Within Cannington are some good facilities, a golf course, the Walled Garden visitor gardens, paintballing, to name a few.

We can also suggest beauticians, shooting (shotgun), horse riding for adults or children, and there are several good places to eat - including some pubs who do genuinely home-cooked still.

You wont be bored here!

"Fantastic family Weekend away at great location"

We were 20 so we hired Toad Hall and Rushcombe. There is an indoor connection from both but it is through a upper floor bedroom. I would have preferred a ground floor connection but it was okay. The g… More

Hi,

Glad to hear you had such a good time, the weather over the weekend was a real bonus as well!

Shame about the fish not biting, we could see them, just couldnt get them to join in.....mostly Rudd at the moment.

Tried to track down the odd smell without success, butI reckon you're right about the drains as we had a similar problem a few years back - we do now have little signs asking guests to restrict what they flush away as this can cause blockages etc. which seems to have worked, but I will keep an eye on the problem (maybe not literally!).

Look forward to seeing you again.

Cheers

Pete.

"Pleasant Easter Weekend Break!"

We stayed in the Shepherds Cottage for the Easter weekend. Very nice. A bit cold but luckily we had brought a couple of small hot air heaters to put in lounge or bedroom. The radiators are on but only… More

Hi,
Thanks for the nice feedback, glad to hear you had a good time - it was indeed a seriously cold weekend! We supply extra heaters if needed, each cottage has a form to leave in the letterbox for things like this, and we are only ever a phonecall away to help out. We do have instructions for the pool / hot-tub etc posted on the entrance, and putting small children in the hot-tub is one of the things we discourage 'cos its really not suitable for them, but some folks see these as 'guidance' rather than House Rules....
When considering what to bring for a stay take a look at the faq page on our website which says what is and isnt supplied, so no getting caught out with not having particular things - the SPAR in the village is open 7 days a week if there are any things left at behind though, its about a 2 minute drive away.
Look forward to seeing you all again.
Regards
Pete

Hi

Thank you for the feedback. Ruscombe is an awesome Hall, glad you enjoyed it so much.

The Wii was a new addition, it has proved so popular (for those that dont have them - its far more family orientated than other games consoles) that we are intending to put them into all of the properties.

Look forward to seeing you again.

Pete
