Split into two very distinct halves – the High Town and Low Town – Bridgnorth is separated by the red sandstone ridge on which it was built. Primarily connected by winding streets and flights of steps, the two halves are also joined by the steep funicular railway. A bustling Saturday market makes excellent backdrop for exploring the town and castle ruins, whilst below, the River Severn offers many scenic riverside walks. The Severn Valley Railway runs between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, and uses a variety of steam and diesel engines whilst surrounding Bridgnorth, there are a wealth of country parks, great houses, museums and picturesque villages. The area also provides easy access to the Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford, Ironbridge Gorge, and the popular destinations of Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Church Stretton.
