BARBADOS - THE TROPICAL ISLAND
With endless miles of white, powdery sand, exotic lush green botanical gardens, a rich colonial history, acres of sugar plantations, not forgetting the diversity of the wild Atlantic coast to the East and the gentle lapping of the Caribbean sea on the beautiful beaches of the West coast, Barbados is truly an amazing place for a holiday.
Most importantly, the Bajans are the friendliest people in the Caribbean and with excellent custom care and very little crime on the island you will be happy to explore Barbados and no doubt make a lot of new friends.
It’s the most visited island in the Caribbean, with English as the first language, driving on the left and English food in all the supermarkets, you always have a comforting feeling of home.
A holiday in Barbados can be leisurely or as active as you wish, with unbelievably glorious beaches, interesting sightseeing trips, numerous island excursions, sailing adventures, deep sea fishing and diving opportunities, plenty of restaurants, bars and night-clubs and the islands infamous Rum punch!
Barbados is blessed with 3000 hours of sunshine a year and with the north east trade winds keeping the temperature at a constant 27-30 degrees centigrade and just enough rainfall to keep the island lush and green, anytime of year is a good time to visit. This climate means that Barbados has some of the best golf courses in the world.
Bridgetown / Carlisle Bay area
BRIDGETOWN Bridgetown the capital of Barbados, with its lively duty free shopping centre, wide variety of bars and restaurants and numerous historical sites is just a short walk along the beach. From Bridgetown water front you can book a deep sea fishing trip, a catamaran cruise to swim with the turtles, a glass bottom boat or a submarine tour and a trip up the west coast in an old paddle steamer or sailing ship.
CARLISLE BAY From the beautiful beaches along the bay you enjoy water sports then everything is available on the beach opposite the apartment such as jet skis, water skiing, banana boat rides, snorklling and even scuba diving. For those of you who enjoy surfing or kite surfing the surfs always up at the beaches on the south and east of the island.
LOCAL ACTIVITIES If you are a keen golfer, the Rockley Golf course is only 15 mins away. The island also boasts other world class golf courses such as the famous Sandy Lane and Royal Westmoreland which are both 30-40 mins drive up the coast.
The apartment is situated in the historical Garrison area and only 5 mins walk from the Garrison race course where you can picnic and enjoy a day out at the races.
OTHER ACTIVITIES There are numerous 4 x 4 safari tours round the island, or try a banks beer, rum or Malibu distillery tour. You can visit various historical sites on the island, including The Plantation House, Barbados Museum, The Military Museum and visits to The Flower Cave and Flower gardens.
EATING & DRINKING If you don’t want to cook at home and prefer to venture out and sample some of the local cuisine and evening entertainment there are restaurants and bars within easy reach, including the Hilton Hotel, the Barbados Grand, Brown Sugar and Lobsters Alive. The famous night club Harbour Lights is within easy walking distance, where you can enjoy a local show with dinner and then dance the night away at the beach front disco (including all drinks) The Royal Barbados Yacht Club is directly opposite the apartment, you can have temporary membership of the yacht club (if you speak to June in the office at Banyan Court), which means you can enjoy the best deals on the island for food and drinks. As well as afternoon tea on the terrace or gin & tonics while watching the amazing sunset from the club’s beachfront bar.
For a lively night out, the St Lawrence Gap area is a 15 mins drive and is packed with nightlife in bars and waterfront restaurants offering local fresh fish dishes.
