The West Country / Devon region

The cottage is close to the Cornwall and Devon border and is ideal for both a relaxing, centrally located country retreat or an active family holiday. The glorious North Cornwall coastline is less than 30 min drive with its world class surfing beaches and Dartmoor is on the doorstep with fantastic walks and riding on its dramatic wild Tors, beautiful wooded valleys and ancient forests. Great Burrow Cottage is a perfect base to explore this very varied and rewarding area rich in wildlife and spoilt with great pubs and restaurants.

Bridestowe area

Dartmoor, Bodmin moor and Exmoor are all within easy driving distance whilst fifteen minutes drive away is the castle town of Okehampton and the Cathedral city of Exeter about 30 minutes. The market towns of Tavistock and Launceston are also within easy reach.

Dartmoor offers horse riding, cycling, walking and great pubs whilst the North Cornwall coast has miles of sandy beaches, fascinating rock pools and stunning cliff top walks. In addition there are excellent golf courses, water sports, and fishing. We can give you more tailored information when you arrive but have listed a local selection here.

Dartmoor was designated one of the National Parks of England and Wales in 1951. The public is able to roam freely on its 369 square miles of unenclosed, open moorland, with around 600 miles of public rights of way. Dartmoor is a rich habitat for wildlife and has a wealth of archaeological remains, myths and legends. The cottage has guide books on some of the best walks.

You can find great walks directly from the cottage, taking in streams, forests and valleys many with beautiful far-reaching views of Dartmoor and even Bodmin moor. Many more walks can be found at the Discover Dartmoor website.
